Hello,

I am very interested in this cartridge, and am interested in perhaps collecting, in the future, some carbines in it. Now, I do not know what carbines were chambered in this cartridge. I own an M-94, and I understand some Jorgensen carbine was as well? All I know is I saw one once that had a right hand free-feeding magazine box that the gentleman said was chambered in 6.5x55 Swede.

What other carbines were chambered in this, what is their cost and rarity?

Thanks,
Drachenblut

Unfortunately, the Novegian Krag carbines in 6.5x55mm were also prime targets for Bubba/Sporterizing projets. They are quite rare in original unmolested condition.

Finnish-Russian Wars and the Swedish war time trained and equiped Danish, "Den Danske Brigade", as well as being used by Danish military well into the fifties.

Both the Finns and the Danes produced ammo for the 6.5x55, but according to some of the guys at Gunboards, the Danish produced ammo is not always safe ?

Hmmm so far one suggestion for the Norwegian Krag Carbine in 6.5X55, what is the actual designation for this, and I am sure they are rare, any concept of price?

M38 is carbine, 96 (if I got a number right) is a full length

Yep....:)

Am I alone in having heard that the Norwegian Krag's were not chambered for the same strength of 6.5 as were the Swedes?...

M/96 also have the typical straight bolt handle (except for sniper rifles), while the M/38 and M/94 have the "bent bolt handle".
A "carbine" is a short barreled rifle (usually around or less than 20"), the M/38 have a 24" (well, 23.622", or 600mm) barrel, wich make it a "rifle".

Thank you Baribal. I hear alot of argument that people call a carbine a "short rifle". In my opinion, a 20.5 or so inch barrel or less is a carbine, a 21-25"ish barrel is a "short rifle" and anything longer is a rifle.

I've narrowed down my search, having done some research, and I am looking for:

A Krag-Jorgenson M1895 & M1897 Carbine
or
A Krag-Jorgenson M1904 & M1907 Carbine

These have an over-all length of 40 inches or so and barrel lengths of 20.5"

Does anyone have one, can you post pictures if you do? how much do they cost? I understand they are a rare piece, but I am highly interested.

Any comments on these?

More than likely, "Deaf as my horse" Makes sence now, since they pin-fire burned the ears on the cavalry horses so they would not spook at gunfire in combat.
