The '70s are back!

Once the announcement discontinuing the "old" M70s was made, there was a run on remaining dealer's stock. Almost immediately they appeared on the second hand market at a 50% premium over retail.

What do you suppose will happen to that market? Will there be enough difference between "old" and "new" M70s to justify the premium? How do retail prices on the "new" M70s compare to the retail prices on the "old versions?

I think the speculators will be burned. There doesn't appear to be enough difference between the "old" classic and the new offerings to allow for a big price differential. Different story on the pre-64 70s however.

While I love my model 70, I think I'd just pay the extra and buy a Kimber in the future. In the end it works out to the same (bedding, free floating, and trigger).

I'm not too impressed that they seem to have dropped the WSSM cartridges. I guess I'll have to stock up on brass.

I'm thinking a new stainless synthetic 06... maybe this fall. Not sure though, I want to have a look at them first. Unless I find a decent post 84 donor action before then.:)
