ooooh, no dice!
on the rem website, under the premier dealers heading they have it(710)renamed as the 715!!

to quote the pdf, "same standard features of the 710 but without scope"

You fellows are snobs. Me too. The 710 wouldn't be my first choice, but that being said, I think that the only real mistake that Remington made, is they are ahead of their time. The vast majority of hunters will only have ONE centerfire rifle and it will be in a popular off the shelf calibre with a mid quality scope that allows them to shoot into 2in or less at 100 yds, with off the shelf bullets that are the cheapest that can be bought, such as the NITREX 5 pack. Two bullets for sighters and three for hunting.

I'm not kidding, we are a small fraternity here at CGN, almost a little oasis of sanity and normality in a sea of emotional ignorance and abnormality.

Remember the only thing that's normal is the abnormal.

I can see, in the not to distant future, that the majority of rifles will be made in very similar fashion to the 710/770. I also believe that most military rifles will be made useing the same technology. It's already cheaper for the militaries of the world to leave their weapons behind or destroy them in country than to take them home and repair or store them.

It's just a lot cheaper to build new ones.

I've shot several 710 model rifles. With the Bushnell scope supplied. They shoot better than a lot of their owners and maybe better than a few of us are capable of shooting. They are ergonomically friendly as well.

They're cheap enough to throw away when and if their throats wear out and accuracy drops off. For most average Joe hunters, that will be longer than their lifetimes and their heirs. This is the crowd these rifles are intended for. Just look at some of our own financialy challenged friends on this board, they shoot Grampa's old bubba lee enfield and are thrilled with it. They are thrilled for a couple of reasons, first, it was Grampas, second, it was free and came with a full box of ammo, enouhg for 3-4 years of hunting if used spareingly. Don't knock the 710/770 rifles, they are very capable platforms and will work as well as the vast majority of hunting rifles out there.

As I said before, they're just ahead of their time. bearhunter

No, they aren't capable platforms, they are ####. Period.

I'd rather take a bubba rifle, and clean out the bore (which is what most need) stick a sco[pe on it and go out, rather than use a POS 710, which may be fairly accurate, but is not even close to reliable.

It is up to the CONSUMER to decide what they like, and if enough of them say "this is a POS" the 710
s will go away.

There are already better affrdable, or even "package' guns than the 710. There is no need for it to exist.

It will never die - cone on - it allready has 3 pages here- and there will eb those who wil always talk about it -Remember the 710........
nope i am afraid it is here to stay - 770 its 710 dressed differently - trying t fool those who want it dead but it wont die
just ahve to live with it I guess we live ina new world a world wit hthe 710 now

i got one

it's not my sharps, browning, ruger, win,or other rem's,but it works fine(yes fine).it is a cheap gun$$ that functions well. i'm happy with it,i bought it to see if it was as bad as others have said it was. i bought it,I LIKE IT,mine works for me. maybe the others are not so good, who know's.mine is not going to be for sale, unless i see something else that does what the 710 can do,AS CHEAP.if i break/lose or wreck it i'm not out alot. i repeat i like the 710

I don't own a 710, and probably won't buy one, or the 770. But I have had the opportunity to shoot 4 or 5 of them, and they shot and worked just fine. You can naysay them all you like, but I agree with bearhunter, they serve the needs of a lot of casual hunters quite acceptably. Regards, Eagleye.

Local gunshop honestly said that they did not have anything bad to say about the 710, even as I was filling out paperwork for a 700. Though I do believe the many people on this website telling me to steer clear of one!
I'd take it if it was free though ;)

Ever bought a 10 year old rifle and have the seller throw in the 1/4 full box of shells he bought with the gun.................

Thats the kind of person this gun is on the market for and it would probably serve them just fine. I still think they are junk and wouldnt buy one but I bet they sell a crap load of them.

Now this is not true. And I own one. The bolt jams shut for no reason whatsoever. Have seen it on mine, one at the range and a buddy of mine's as well. Thats 3 for 3. And I know Gatehouse has seen it happen with a different 710 rifle at his range. They may shoot awesome (and they do) but reliability is not there. I hope someone does not have to defend themselves from a charging bear. Cause if that bolt is stuck you only have one shot. Almost didn't connect on a deer two seasons ago cause I could not get a second shot off. Had to bang the hell out of my bolt with a rock just to open it again.

Stevens, more gun, less money.

I agree. The 2 Stevens I owned bothe worked fairly well- not perfectly, but it woudl chamber facotry ammo and reliably extract and eject. SOmethign at least 2 710's that I saw woudl not do.

I'd say the once a year hunter is WAY better served by a Stevens than a 710...

It can't be dead; it was never alive!

or maybe, do you think...."Master, master! It is ALIVE!" is a perfect description! Frankenrifle!
