The 760/7600 Club

Any of you left handed guys have issues packing the model 7600/7400 platform with the mag release getting caught on straps of packs etc? I am a lefty and sling over the left shoulder of course and have a fanny pack with over the shoulder straps that seems to catch on the mag release and dump the mag. Had this happen twice this past hunting season carrying a model 7400. Same mag release as the 7600 platform which I still have one of. Don't want a repeat obviously. Maybe just a touchy release button on the7400?

Had a 760 in .35 Rem. Fired about 4 rounds out of it and sold it as I wasn't using it. Not that I didn't like it, but it wasn't getting used. Currently have a newer 7600 synthetic in .270 Win that I had picked up a while ago, but have yet to shoot. I do like the low scope mounting on the 760/7600's, and the newer 7600 with the Monte Carlo stock makes for quick target acquisition. I fear that the one that I have currently may end up getting sold too, as it's just gathering dust.

Thanks Guys,

There's some really good info in this thread.

I've got my grandfathers 760 with original furniture, and really enjoy it.

Looking forward to seeing some of the other guns.

If you ever think about selling that Bob let me know! So jealous of that collection!

I'm wishing I had wiped the fingerprints off the barrel on the 25!
This is the 52' 300Sav with I don't know who or where the wood came from but is one comfortable piece to hold!
Still on the hunt for more right now..

I already have a 300... But you can never have too many right? More than I need, not as many as I want

Nice collection there...

Yes it is . I just gave your old 338 Federal 760 to a young friend of mine . He was in need of a serious rifle , it definitely fills the bill . Needless to say , he's a happy camper . It was one of my favorite rifles , but he's a good friend and appreciates a good rile .

Wow some really nice Remington 760/7600. What factory ammo works the best ( best accuracy ) in these guns chambered in 30-06 . I am thinking 165 gr or 180 gr . I use Remington CoreLok but I am wondering if there is a better ammo that is more accurate ( works better in this gun for hunting moose or elk ) . Thanks in advance

Thread resurrection time. Just increased my fuddliness with the purchase of a new to me 7600 in 30 06. Date code puts it at January '87 manufacture. Wood is in excellent condition other than some swelling by the butt plate. Blueing likewise is excellent with a scratch on the left side of the receiver. No wear or blueing loss at the muzzle or bottom of the reciever. Mounted a Bushnell 1.5 x 4.5 x 32 on and boresighted it. Will likely have to swap this out as the scope has a matte finish and my OCD demands a a gloss scope to match the gun blueing. It does have the for end rattle so will have to replace the o ring at some point. Cheers Bac4

180 grain sp ( round nose ) core lokt shoot amazing out of them. And they'll plow end to end in whatever you shoot.

I would agree. I used 180 grain SP (round nose) Core Lokt for years and later switched to 180 grain PSP (pointed soft point) only because they are more available and am happy with both in the 7600 Carbine and my 7400 Carbine.

Three recent acquaintances to add,
760 30-06 BDL Custom (stepped receiver)made last yr of the 760-1980.
.280 Carbine made Aug 1960- production started July. Date code wg with the 'g' upside down.
Only 1222 C carbines made.
.243 BDL 1975- only listed as having been made in standard model wood.

Another recent gun show made me bring two more home. A second .280 760/Carbine and a 760/222Rem.

This 2nd .280 Carbine has a DC of OG/July 1960 first month of production but the .222 is really interesting!

DC of it is AN which makes it March/1966, but 3106 .222's were only produced from 57-58 EXCEPT for 200 that were made in 1966 for the International Running Deer Matches according to author Gene Myszkowski. He also wrote that he has never encountered one!0518B3FF-EC65-4A08-A0C5-B50E1813AE0E.jpg
