The 760/7600 Club

Madashell I don't have any experience wth the Wilson grs but have used the Williams Reciever (peep) sights on quite a few of the 760's , 7600's and my Savage 99 and quite like them. In fact I picked up a rough 760 in .308 today that will be a project and will likely wind up with the Williams WGRS peep sight unless I go with the see through mounts it came with. Nothing wrong with the plastic dust guard as far as I know. I've not had one rattle on my guns. Don't know where you are located but if you are near the east end of the gta and want to have a look at mine before you buy just send me pm and we can set it up. Cheers Bac4

I have never had an ounce of trouble with the plastic dust covers. The rattle is a very easy fix with a simple O-ring.
SuperCub has a good post about the O-ring repair along with the O-ring size needed. Check it out. It works!!!!

- given the trigger looks to be about an 870 trigger, do these accept the Timney 870 trigger fix ? Yes, I have installed a few recently.

- Earlier in this thread a poster mentioned this about dust-guard and not so sure I'd be crazy about it: Thoughts ? No issues so far...

I bought on off a family friend who bit off more than he could chew. After about 4 hours of cleaning and work along with making some parts the rifle is safe and functional. Sighting was a bit of a pain that steel butt plate is bit much affter 20 rnds off a rest.I will try and take a deer with it this year.

I have used both the WGRS and the FP on the 760/7600, in fact still own two of each model.

The FP is a better by far reciever sight. It is much sturdier and is click adjustable. The WGRS only has very small friction screws to hold your setting. The downside of the FP is that it requires two holes drilled on the LHS of the receiver for mounting much like the holes used on a 94 or 336. Either way it still a better sight.

If anyone wants a WGRS for 760 or 7600 PM me. I'm keeping the FPs. :)

Supercub I am leaning towards the Fool Proof sight. I have one on a Savage 99 and have used them on 760's and Winchester 94's in the past. I have a Wgrs sight on hand as well as a Weaver base for the 760.(the see throughs are turfed in tbe garbage lol). If I scope it, I have a Bushnell 1.5 X 4.5 that would look good on this outfit. Cheers Bac4

I'm a 7600/Whelen newbie. May I ask some advice on site in?
I'm having some trouble getting consistent results. I'm getting 2inch groups but I believe the rifle is capable of better.
Do you support the forend on a rest or support the bare barrel ahead of the forend? Recoil from my Whelen wants to partially cycle the action, shifting the forend back off the rest. I'm not used to a gun moving so much on the bench. Do you shooters grip the forend tight and resist the cycle? Any advice appreciated. Thanks

I have some ammo for you if you remind me.

you are going to get muzzle jump with a .35 Whelen in a light gun. If you are getting 2 inches for three shots at a hundred yards that's excellent hunting accuracy. Just sayin'.....;)

Thanks Doug. I should learn to relax a bit.

Not only will you get a bit of muzzle jump but it's very possible that the action will partially open and sometimes even sometimes discharge the empty case upon firing from sand bags. I've had four of them in 35W and they all did it esp with 250gr loads.

Ain't it great!!!!! Does 50% of the cycling for you.

Sorry to skip 70+ pages of this thread and just ask off the bat, but does anyone know of the existence of 10 round mags for the 7600 in 308Win? I'd like to try and source one if possible.
