The 760/7600 Club

I'm in.

I just purchased a Gamemaster 760 in 308 yesterday, old fellow says it's never been fired. It has a few marks from rough handling but looks great to me.
Not sure if I'm going to keep it but the more I read this post the more I think I will.
I'd post pictures but I'm not allowed. How do I get permission to post pictures?

limbsaver recoil pad

I have a 30/06 carbine model wood stock. Has anyone put a limbsaver recoil pad on theirs? I hate those stinking plastic guards they put on the stock.

I put a 1/2" English style Decelerator on mine. Looks good/works good. I hate 1" pads unless the extra protection is totally needed. Too ugly!

Beware ..... The Carbines are loud, but the excellent handling more than makes up for the noise.

Thanks. Just put a peep on it and I'll try it like that for a bit, but if I know me I'll be scoping it. I sure like the way it handles without a scope though.

There was one on the rack a couple days ago. it was in my hands. Price tag was a grand. Who did you talk to. Ask for Jeff.

When did you see them?? Nothing listed on the web and when I called the guy just laughed at me saying would you like one in 223 also??.
I sure would I said>

Their website almost never lists anything rare. I think they don't even bother because they know it will sell in a day or two. There have been countless times where somebody has told me about a rare gun out there and I check the website and it isn't there.

What are the barrel lengths in the carbine versus regular 760s.

What differences can be expected between the two besides the carbine being shorter and quicker to handle.

Regular 760s and 7600s have a 22 inch barrel versus the carbine models which have an 18.5 inch barrel. Besides quicker handling, you will notice that the carbines are quite a bit louder. For .308 you lose about 350 feet per second (probably around that in 30.06 to). I find the recoil is more for some reason in the high-velocity cartridges. Although it seems to be one of the most popular carbines out there, I find that they are way cooler in your head than they are at the range. I have a standard 7600 which I was ready to sell when I bought a carbine and the carbine was gone after one trip to the range. Just my opinion of course, many hunters love the carbine pumps.

The 7600 Police has a 16.5 inch barrel.

Haven't got to the range yet, but Im anticipating a fair recoil, and a very loud signature.

actually it is more like 20-25 fps per inch from a 24"test barrel. The differance between the 22inch barrel compared to the 18.5 is around 70fps
which can easily be made up with handloads.

The noise from the 18.5 carbine is not bad at all but it does bark a bit more the the standard 22 barrel which is also loud.
Recoil is the same as long as the weight is the same, muzzle flip is not much different betweem barrels and if you get a straight stock like an ar style its back not up.

tons short barrel myths it seems

Interesting about the velocity change, I had just heard that information from somebody else but I stand corrected. I dont reload so I never thought of it, but handloads would be an excellent option to make up for the loss of velocity in carbines. Not that 70fps is going to change much. I have shot both and the recoil seemed to be considerably more...could just be coincidence though.

I chronied the same loads through my 22" 7600 and my 18.5" 7600 in .30-06. The 18.5" carbine gave up less than 90 fps. Almost a waste to pack around the longer barrel ...
