The 760/7600 Club

I just got my second 7600 Weathermaster rifle in 30-06. These rifles work well on the west coast and the finish is very durable. The previous owner removed the front/rear sights and lost them, so now I have to find a set --- any leads?

My 7600 in .243 is my newest addition. I've never had a .243 before this one, but I think I'd like to add another one or two. I was able to pop gatorade bottles through open sights with my worsening eyesight at about 70 yards, so I'm a believer. I'm looking at either getting a redfield revenge or a nikon 3 x 9-40 mm scope for it. Anyone tried them?

Sean

Think I am picking up a 244 tomorrow.

Anyone else got anything new??

You have been doing well with your collection, What cals do you have now. I have not picked up one in a while, girls in university sure hurts any extra cash for guns

243, 270, 308, 3006, 280, 35W, 7mm08, 223, 6mm, 300 sav
and always watching for a 257 rob but no luck so far
Cheers

I love my 1954 270. I've shot more moose with it than any other rifle.

My dad bought it from a violin maker that did some inletting on the stock. That was in the 60's. I remember admiring it for years when my dad hunted with it.

When he bought a 30-06 I got it and I used it exclusively from the time I was about 17 or so. I'm 44 now and just recently got a 7mm mag.

Since I came into possession of it I've shot a moose every year (except 2 years I didn't hunt) and several deer.

I posted a thread in the hunting forum of our slough and most of the game I shot was there and at 300 yards.

That rifle holds a special place in my heart.

I just purchased a 7600 pump in 35 whelen off the EE... very excited!

barrel cut to 18.5, synthetic stock, cerakoted in OD green.

A jackpine bushwhackers wet dream of a rifle!

I got a 7600 35Whelen off the EE last night as well. Scary, cuz I was the one who owned in the first place. I bought my own gun back after 7 or 9 years.

Wait until you own the same gun three times, then you KNOW you have a problem....................(happened to me a few times..........) My name is Doug and I'm a gunaholic.............

Showed up today. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. Don't really need another 35cal as well as a 375, but it would be a good rifle for deer season for a change.

Everytime it rains in Victoria, which is fairly often in the fall, I'm reminded how practical an all-weather rifle would be. I'm a blued/wood guy, but recently re-purchased a Remington 7600 Weathermaster in 30-06. I really like the satin nickel finish, more so than stainless. This morning, I scoped it and will be taking it to the range to develop a 180gr load... I sure hope it shoots well as it handles great.

Here it is with a Leupold VX-2 2-7x33 LR duplex scope, Burris low Zee rings, and a Weaver #93 mount. Eye relief is pretty forgiving with this scope, and I get a full field of view across the zoom range with my offhand stance. Total weight, unloaded, is 7lbs 4oz, which I think is a happy medium for this type of rifle.

NOTE: I have a blued barrel band swivel to attach, but I'm waiting to source a nickel/stainless one for a nicer look.

That is a beauty weathermaster. I have one just like it! I need to find a reason to use it more.

Well, at least take it out of the safe and give it a cycle :) They are fine rifles. I sold the last one I had because I preferred the simplicity of a bolt. However, that was a while back and, and now that I've taken this one apart and seen how the parts interact, it's really no more complicated and looks pretty foolproof. My only complaint, which is fairly common with these rifles, is that the trigger pull is a bit mushy. I've looked at the trigger carefully and think there may be some non-permanent changes I can make to smooth it out -- I might even try one of the adjustable pull spring kits.

I was also checking out some Youtube videos on various nickel plating techniques and will probably give a try at plating my existing black barrel band swivel stud. Once I get that done and put on sights, she'll be a great rifle, I'm sure... but that'll have to wait until after hunting season...

Another option is to buy an in-the-white barrel band and work it over;

For those of you that have a pumpnin .243, what sort of scope do you have mounted, and do you use it only for deer or coyotes as well?

Sean

You can put just about any scope on one of these, although I think most folks have lower power scopes on them. And in my view, a scope with a huge objective lens would just not look right on a pump gun. Yes of course a .243 would be good for deer and coyotes (and other critters). And welcome to the board!

Easy SuperCab.....I'm from ole Ab and am a proud owner of a beauty 7600 just like Blargon's! Its a freakn awesome rifle! I too fixed the o ring and gave it a good cleaning. Works great and is a dead eye #### at 100-300m. I picked it up (read: stole it) for $180.00 in total with a 10x scope. Love it...however it has well earned its nickname "The Mule". :) Wont ever sell it.

BTW....I have others in my collection that can make my other Ab buddies happy enough!

TAR-21 FDE
Ithaca Model 72

Don't tell him that! He might buy one and like it.

He's from Alberta and they hate 760/7600s there and would be shunned by his hunting pards for the transgression of owning a pump rifle. :slap:

Most folk who don't like them have never used them. There's lots in Sask. and Ont.
