The 7mm Mauser

I own a couple M70's in 7x57, my main hunting rifle, in New Zealand for many years,
Bought one of the limited run Winchester M70 featherweights, 5-6 years ago, my present to myself, for paying of the house, really like the handling and balance.
162 gr A-max @ 2650 ish, has servied me well. I've tried the 150 Bt, and numerous 140 gr Factory loads, none have dumped game with the same authority. pretty sold on the 162 gr Now, and only ever use the 175 gr, bush hunting in the Roar for stags,
Just ordered a 7x57R barrel set, for my double rifle,
Fine hunting round, for the type of hunting I mostly do.

Hornady doesn’t make the A-Max anymore do they?

Tested some 162gr ELD Match with 50gr RL-17 in RP 7mm Mauser brass and WLR primers in a postwar German commercial 98 action Mauser.
Primer looked not flattened as much as I feared compared to my starling load of 45.5gr of RL-17
50gr loaded case primer center and 45.5gr case primer on right in ambient light and flash pictures.

Depends on the strength of the action. I've got some 180gr ELD Match already loaded with the same 50gr. of RL-17 to try out, for pressure signs.
Am I'm likely to use this load in the field? Of course not. Want to find the limits, then best accuracy.

That starling load seems like overkill:)

Blame the small font on my screen. Now fixed.:)

Bottom line says "Made in Osaka Japan 2017."

My pet load for the past four or five 7X57 rifles has been 50.0 grains of RL-19 in R-P brass under the 150 RCL or 150 NBT or 154 SST with CCI 250 primers... accurate load that hits hard.

Edit; oops... see I already posted that.

I have a tang safety Ruger I've been packing for over 20 years, and a Husqvarna 4100.

160 gn Speer deep curls were my go-to load for the past few years. They worked flawlessly on a number of moose and a few wolf and sheep. The bullet photo shows one recovered from a 260 yd shot on moose.

I used up the Deep Curls so I stocked up on 140 gn Pro Hunters and worked up this load this spring;
