i have played a bit with ai cartridges. i tried a 7 08 with 20 inch and 24 inch barrels. not much gain. i used a standard set of dies and bought a fl redding resize die. an advanage over some of the short mags i you can fit 3 or 4 rounds in a 7 08 not so easy in short mag. 280ai in a 22 barrel i found the gain to be well worth the effort. it approched 7 rem speeds with no sign of high pressure. brass seemed to last for ever too.there cheep to do and fun to try and if the chamber is cut right you just fire a stock round and out pops the ai version. no fooling around with fillers and fireforming. nice thing if your stuck for ammo just fire factory all you lose is about 50 fps and accuracy doesn't seem affected. i still have my ai dies and may build another. also thinking of ai my 338 06 with the bigger bore there maybe some good gains to be had.

I haven't found that the improvement depends on a larger bore size with any of my AI's (223 to 475). Case shape makes a huge difference though. - dan
