CZUB announced on December 27th, at the CZ store in Prague, there all new 557 hunting rifle series. The rifle features the same style as the CZ 550 LUX but with a shorter 520mm (20inch) barrel. Currently the rifles is only offered with a fixed magazine and only a handful of chamberings such as .308winchester, 30/06 springfield, .270winchester, 7x64, 8x57, and 6.5x55. There are currently future plans for a detachable magazine model chambered for .308winchester, 22-250, or .243winchester.

The accuracy is claimed to be a "level higher than usual" with modern day technology allowing for the manufacturing of shorter barreled rifles without sacrificing accuracy. A long term shooting test was conducted by CZ with a .308winchester model of the 557. Even after 8000 rounds, the rifle still achieved 85mm spread (a little more than 3inches) at 300 meters (328yards)

The front sight is adjustable for elevation and the hood is skeletonized to unsure light access to the fiber optic sight. The skeletonized hood is said to be "practical", and "dynamic" to the rifles design. The 557 also features a new trigger mechanism which no longer has a set trigger. Instead, the new trigger design can be adjusted for trigger travel, weight, and overtravel. The trigger travel can be set without disassembly; the other adjustments must be made from removing the rifle from its stock. It is considered that once the trigger is adjusted to the way the shooter likes it, "you will consider the set trigger as a redundant feature."

Nice overall rifle. 20" is a very useable length for most hunting.

While I like a bit of the European styling with the hogs back comb and schnabel forend, I would certainly pass given that hideaous bell bottom grip. YUK!

For myself Supercub, i think it give it's style, all tastes are in the nature... JP.

The style of the grip isn't an issue for me, most times looks are a non issue for me, but it's a given that any sort of rough handling could produce a nasty chip on that exposed fine edge. My rifles are for hunting, not for looks they need to be tough, as they are going to see some rough action.

I was thinking the exact same thing. The style of the pistol grip ruins it for me. Otherwise not bad

Not a bad looking rifle that could be made "better" looking with some meticulous "Rasping" here and there --- John

Yes please!

With that 20" barrel .308 is a natural shoe-in...9,3 would be sweet but I often wonder how effective a 20" 6.5x55 would be!!!
I do like CZ's!

Doesn't anyone proof read these ads? I'm beginning to think someone in China wrote that.
Hideous sight hood and grip, looks identical to 99% of other oiled wood/blued steel European bolt actions on the market. Probably a quality made gun though.

Translation:

We have monitored Internet forums and determined that the PF vs CRF battle has swung irreversibly in favor of PF, therefore we have discontinued the fiddly and hard to manufacture and fit true 98 pattern extractor and hope nobody notice.

In addition, one of our larger hammer forges broke. We hope you'll buy this story about new technology developed to make short barrels without sacrificing accuracy. We had a good laugh writing that up during the marketing staff Christmas party.

Lastly, since discovering that North Americans weren't even aware of the single set trigger, we'll save ourselves a few bucks per rifle and discontinue it too. Our chief accountant said its redundant and we hope you'll agree.

At least we're giving you real steel ERA sights rather than those crackerjack box Williams alloy doodads we pawned off on you guys the last few years.

Best regards,

The CZ Marketing Team

Do CZ short actions hold intermediate sized rounds? Or do the x57-size cases only fit in the long action? I like the look and the grip looks similar to some Hogue overmoulds I've used in the past. Love fiber optic sights too (euros seem to like them generally).

For my tastes, a Schnabel is pushing the limit - it has to be done right. But the hog's back, 70's lapel grip, the bracelet/sight hood - this thing is just plain ugly - functional or not. Benelli will be jealous.

Oh, and no CRF? Pass.
