The all new Famae flat top.

Interesting, the 540 mags don't have metal pins in them but a plastic internal pin. I wonder how this will work. Seems like the factory made them too tight. I could probably tinker with it but I don't want the 6th round and I don't wanna fck it up either because them mags are pricy. I guess I could take the AR mag conversation but I like the SG magazines.

Awesome, I was gonna take the rifle out today and see if the loc tights held up. Have you thought of welding or GP welding it down?

Thanks for reply.

Some folks are proponents of using JB Weld-Stick between the Rail and the top of the Upper Receiver, in order to support the underside length of the Rail and prevent any flexing during recoil. There "might" be some limited value in this mod - it is difficult to say (or see) without using some sort of High-Speed Camera to validate that there is flex in the first place. As I am interested in selling my SG 542, I won't be performing that particular, potentially messy modification to my rifle.

I ordered an original 542 gas block with the front sight post.
That way I can install a magpul backup rear sight and voilà.

I’ve got one of the earlier generation SG-542s with the irons. I’ll be honest. Considering how low the factory rear sight is to match up with the front sight post, even with the flat top receiver, which is really only a few mm “flatter” than the removable rail, you are going to need a VERY low BUIS for the rear in order to get on paper.

Cant see that working, unless you find a very low rear sight. Even a drum that attaches directly to the rail will be too high.

My sg542 has stopped holding back the bolt. can insert empty mag and cycle the bolt freely. well cleaned, was working then just stopped.

mag looks fine nothing appears broken I'm kinda stumped

The actual issue is that the bolt hold open has been simplified. it is supposed to have a longer piece that engages the magazine follower. What you can check is if the back of the magazine where the rectangle piece rides that engages the bolt hold open, and if it is squished by the lips of the magazine at the back and open them up a bit. i'm only taking about the square lips where the rectangle part rides on, the magazine flower that engages the bolt hold open, it might not let it come up all the way.

I had one magazine out of six that wouldnt engage the bolt catcher.
Looking carefully at the rear I noticed that the follower wasn't being pushed all the way up by the spring/coil because the lips were "pointing inward" too much.
I basically seperated both lips outward and it allowed the follower to reach maximum height.

From the Calgary shooting center.

I figured they must have accumulated a ton of odds and ends for those rifles.

I bought an original gas block with the front sight, a set of green furniture (handguard/pistol grip) and the lower handguard rail mount kit.
