im 99% sure canada post is up charging firearms business extra. if i go to make a shipping label on my private account its almost always less than what i see quoted on most websites these days.

I’m usually on the lookout for free shipping too, but hard to expect free shipping on a $149 item. Even stores that do have free shipping will probably start upping the minimum before you get it free. That last Canada Post increase really hurt a lot of buyers and sellers. Another government corporation kicks us in the a$$.
 
92$ to NS. Politely pound sand or try better. Somethings wrong with the API you guys are using or someone in re-packing things into a 40*30 box lmao. I can send a full rifle for 35$ or less. I'd buy one of these if shipping was rational. Seems like a good trunk gun for the surprised pheasant.

Considering similar ones {longer barrel} are over $200 retail, maybe if you put $189.99 w/Free Canada Wide Shipping kinda thing, & hey, none the wiser.
Looks like a better deal, as per most stores wont ship Free for that amount of a sale. Usually $300 & up...mehh just sayin', all this shipping headache would be avoided lol Cheerz!

Any markup on a $40 order would get eaten up by shipping costs unless it can go in a bubble envelope, even that’s not going to leave much.

Understood, but 45 ACP at $49 a box at Cabelas with free shipping is better than $44 a box elsewhere that adds shipping
 
Shipping costs have gone up considerably since the pandemic, and s***ing on Wanstall's is not cool. They don't control shipping costs. I sent a couple of boxes of stuff back to myself in BC from my f-in-law's farm in SK and it was $45 for a smallish box, but it was heavy. Shipping things to my daughter at UBC from the BC Interior is nuts too. If a site advertises free shipping they are either a large enough corporation (like Cabela's) to swallow that shipping as part of a "loss leader" (but that won't last even for the bigger corps) or else they are adding it to the cost of the item. Smaller outfits can't afford to swallow those costs so either charge shipping or add to the item, swallowing some cost.

There is a reason that most experienced sellers on the EE don't list things as "$____ shipped" anymore. You do that once or twice and then pay $44 to ship a 35cm handgun box with insurance to someone in Calgary from the BC Interior and realize that you really didn't get as much for that pistol as you thought you did. And buying at auction--Landsborough, Switzer's, Wards, Meyers, SFRC--all charge for packing and shipping and when you get your shipping bill on that awesome deal you got on bullets and wads you realize ouch.

It is all part of the Liberal inflation, same as how groceries have gone up brutally because of production costs and shipping costs. It really sucks, and I now factor in shipping if deciding I want a toy badly enough. Welcome to the brave new world of most companies not wanting to ship firearms, and a Crown Corporation pretty much the only one that does.
