The Anti hunters and the Olympics.

I thought the Olympics would help the firearms community in Canada. After all shooting is part of the winter Olympics.
Why do people rail against hunting if it is done in an environmentally responsible manner? I am not a hunter but I know dozens of people who love dear hunting. Yet our province is full of dear so there is no problem. Right?
As for Grizzly bears??? Why should they be concerned? These are known to be "cranky" at best, and huge!
As for seals? I am 47 years old, there are far more seals here in Eastern Canada than any time in my life. Just yesterday a fisherman friend called me up and in the course of conversation told me that of 22 halibut they caught the previous trip, 17 were eaten alive on the hook by seals. They kept 5. Sad but true. Plus, how many do the seals rip completely from the hook? These are just the ripped carcasses and heads left on the hooks. Sable Island population is out of control. There are more seals in Halifax Harbour now than any time in the 20th century!

"I don't like to hunt them, therefore nobody should hunt them." sort of a mentality.
I don't think guys should be allowed to wear pink shirts but I ain't about to keep you from wearing on if you want to.

Part of the role of the extra security patrols around the perimeter of the mountains is to intercept animal encounters, it was mentioned during a news special on the security protocols just before the games started.
No tourists attacked by coyotes or cougars= good press. Bears all hibernating anyway.

Not making a racist remark here and I am sorry in advance if any members from B.C are 1st Nations but I have NOT really seen ANY evidence of 1st Nations taking part in Conservation of Wildlife?
They hunt year round with little regard for breeding, calving or if a Moose is waste deep in snow.
They net Walleye spawning creeks in the Spring...and sometimes have been found guilty of selling fish on Black Market.
They kill Bald Eagles without permits....just for the feathers.
They shoot whales with a .50 BMG. as part of a traditional hunt.
They insist on jacklighting/nightlighting which is a proven dangerous activity and now it seems the courts are taking their side on this as well.

I hope Wyatt and his friends will be just as ready and willing to go 'view' bears that are starving because their populations haven't been managed properly. Or perhaps hang out for 'viewing' opportunities in the backyards of folks who live in isolated communities in BC where bears may roam into town looking for food.
I know the guys at BCWF. They're good people doing a very large job. They have raised the grizzly bear hunting issue nationally, and they have many other issues on their plate. The Pacific salmon and aquaculture issue is another biggie.
In any event, if you're a hunter in BC, and heck, if you're a hunter or supporter of wildlife anywhere, send a letter to the BC government voicing your support for proper conservation management of grizzly bear populations, an effort which requires hunting.

Too bad the natives don't realise that "International Opinion" consists of Glib Europeans, who view them as "Nobel Savages". The different bands involvement in the opening ceremonies is nothing more than a dog and pony show that perpetuates a myth that has little to no bases in reality.
International opinion doesn't want to acknowledge the reality (warts and all) becuase their inherently racist view of N. America's first people is no different than how many people see animals in the zoo.
