The AR-15 is made non-restricted overnight, what changes happen?

The last time that the AR was reclassified as just another rifle was when Joe Clark's Gov't did it.
Nothing happened.
The sky did not fall.
It was pretty much a non-event as far as public response was concerned.

They would have a huge rise in sales as sportsmen otherwise put off by the restricted category start buying them and extra uppers for hunting from prairie dogs to deer

I predict that coyote populations in my area would take a large hit. My nieces would get to shoot my AR at every family gathering. Lastly I would be buying large amounts of bulk 55gr bullets, a bigger tumbler and a large quantity of 8208xbr. And My mom would get an AR for Christmas.

This is Canada, nothing is ever "free". If they were going NR.. what's the catch?

The catch is that if they did that, nothing more would be done. The Firearms Act as it is would stand as it is, reclassifications and confiscations would continue, trampling on our rights and freedoms would continue, nothing would change. That is the catch.

Firearms owners will be thrown a scrap, firearms owners will devour it wagging their tails, once their initial joy, happiness and distraction has worn off, firearms owners will look up at their masters asking for more at which point they will be told "Sorry, that is all". We will have lost all opportunity to demand and make changes, we will have lost the initiative, the drive, the mood.

It would be a distraction. Nothing more.

They would walk all over us and laugh all the way to the bank and expect us to say thank you and worship them from now on.... and some would do exactly that.

It's exceptionally obvious and predictable...

i could c it happening as its a long rifle and semi auto. or they will have to make xcrs, acrs, tavors, t97s,famaes ect restricted as they are basically the same thing, they shoot semi auto, they are assalt rifles or sportig rifles depending what their use is and since in canada we are target shooters and hunters, i cant c the ar platform stay restricted for much longer. Its not like u can hide it like a handgun. all semi auto, bolt action long rifles should be unrestricted period.

They are definitely NOT assault rifles. You don't go assaulting anyone with it do you? Then it's not an assault rifle. Not to mention assault rifles are select fire.

fine they arent full auto or burst but most military personel do not use full auto , ever, unless you got a squad automatic weapon or equivalent. Its a semi auto version of a select fire asssault rifle that the military and law enforcement use mostly in semi auto anyways. regardless its a long rifle and i think it should not be restricted or make the tavors and xcrs ect restricted. but i believe they will make lar mags and beauwolf mags illegal to level the playing field. or they could come to their senses and not have limits on mags and stop labeling us as criminals that cant handle 20 rounds in an ar15 but we can handle 100 rounds in a 10/22. both 22lr and 223 5.56 are lethal rounds, but you all know that anyways.

Just 10 rds in a restricted AR 15 with LAR 15 mags .... ? Boo-hoo-hoo ... ;>(

Try a non-restricted Mini 14 limited to five. Further, I cannot insert any of my pinned Ruger steel mags loaded with 5 rds into my Mini 14 with the bolt closed, which precludes a tactical reload.

Just one more example of a stupid, arbitrary gun law that achieves nothing.
