The B&T P26 classification

After approx. 12 months the RCMP SFSS have classified the P26 prohibited. I quote the following from their report:

Based on testing conducted, and the susceptibility of the firearm design to be converted to fire full automatic, the B&T Model P26 firearm, serial number CA 15-0216 is found to be readily and easily converted to discharge shots in rapid succession with a single pressure of the trigger in a relatively short time period with relative ease. As such, the B&T Model P26 meets the Criminal Code definition of an “automatic firearm” and “prohibited firearm”.

RCMP firearm "lab" = Pre-Crime division

"This murder stick looks dangerous and if you have an intimate knowledge of Swiss firearms, along with CNC machine experience, gun smithing and a desire to circumvent Canadian laws this gun perhaps, under certain circumstances, may be possibly used to commit a crime"

- RCMP probably

I would guess that the RCMP would order the full auto bits straight from the factory, and if they drop in, then its prohibited. "Converted" with parts that are only sold to agencies.

Mind you pulling ideas out of my bum here.

That's exactly it. It isn't if the gun is easy to get parts for, it is whether the gun is easy to convert if you had the parts to drop in.

Milling means it isn't easy to convert as per R vs Hasselwander.

The RCMP do stray though. Two get entries used to say words to the effect of "We can't get the full auto version parts so we can't tell if they will drop in and thus can't say for sure the gun is easily converted. So it's prohib." I kid you not. Those have since been edited to simply give the standard line wolverine posted.

It doesn't matter if it's easily converted or not. Because if you did convert it, it would be automatically prohib anyway! They're just being obstructionist.

Too bad. It actually looks like a really cool little gun!

Except law says easily converted is prohib too. They didn't make the rule... your elected politicians did.

Converting covers the ones that aren't easily converted.
