The Battle of Athens

Thats something to be proud of. Honest men fighting for whats right against corrupt officials. Founding fathers would have been proud.

Watching that clip got me to thinking about the veterans involved and the hell the y had just gone through fighting tyranny overseas. These were not men to be fooled with. Great story!:)

A great illustration of what HAS TO happen when the ballot-box no longer works, should men still desire a bit of Freedom.

I am thinking that it very nearly got to that here; the level of frustration was just so VERY high. But we have proved, just in the last 3 days, that pressure CAN work and that there actually might BE a few honest politicians, so now we go to the next stage and keep re-opening the big box of Freedom which is supposed to be ours by right.

Too bad this movie wasn't available in Quebec during the Duplessis era..... or right across Canada during the Trudeau/Chretin period. People might have woken up a bit faster.

Miss Vetterli, my terribly-dangerous 1870/87/915 Short Rifle, is running around the house naked, celebrating her new freedom from the dangers of the Smelter. I'm heading down to the DVD store, see if I can order a copy of that movie.

what is even better is that the actual shoot out only involved a few old enfields and a couple of M1s, not nearly the arsenal shown in the movie, and it was successful

I have been thinking of getting a Vetterli, the only thing holding me back was the hassle of converting one to centerfire. That hurdle is gone now. :D

Miss Vetterli's song.

Give me oil, lots of oil-
and a bit of Ballistite.
Don't melt me down...

Clean me once,Clean me Twice.
Clean me up so very nice.
Don't melt me down...

I've a story, a long story, to chronicle the glory.
Don't destroy me.

Take me out,let me shout.
That is what it's all about.
Don't melt me down...

I can help, I can Help.
To teach some History.
Don't melt me down...

Don't shred me, Let me live, I've got so much to give.
Don't destroy me.

ITALIAN Vetterlis are centrefire already: Model 1870 is a single-shot, 70/87 is a 4-shot repeater and 70/87/915 is a 6-shot conversion to 6.5x52MC.

The original 10.35mm round can be made from .348 Winchester or, I am pretty sure, some of the 8mm Lebel brass that the Serbs are making and that Trade-Ex is selling.

They are one of the least understood.... and one of the prettiest..... military rifles ever. A design FAR in advance of its period.

There is one fellow that has a youtube clip of his Swiss Vetterli he converted to centrefire, he did have to ream out the throat a bit from what I understand, to get around the fact the original ammo was outside lubricated. He was also reporting he was getting .44 magnum performance with less pressure. Thanks for the info on the Italian ones. However it seems the Swiss ones are the most plentiful (and least expensive route to go). :)
