The "Beowulf" to the 308?

I think some previous posts were mislead by the title. The magazines for a firearm chambered in this will not allow more .308 to fit in them as it is the same case, just necked up. So the AIA mag thing doesn't really fit in the context (but thanks for the info, may order some!!). Also not very sure what the point of getting a new barrel to fire these surely expensive rounds when as mentioned before, a 308 will pretty much accomplish any task you need done. If not, get a dedicated rifle that fires something bigger. Just my .02...

For when you need to take down a T-Rex... for everything else, there's .308. Seriously though I am pumped about this round ever since reading the article 2 weeks ago. I think a Remington 700 would be epic in this caliber!

You're missing the point, this cartridge pretty much puts a 45/70 into a semi auto battle rifle. If you want it in a traditional rifle just get a Marlin 1895 or one of the many other offerings in the cartridge.

These just like all other new cartridges will only appeal to handloaders as the price for factory loads will be ridiculous.

Its just about having something different. Yes the 308 will take down all the same critters but this makes a bigger hole. If I had to choose just one I would definitely go with 308 since it is a better all around cartridge and is capable of much longer range but given the option to have both well of course this will be fun to play with as well.

that would make one heck of a kick butt leaver gun... I am just wondering if the s&w .500 cost is over lapsed by the power vs the 45-70 or is having a s&w .500 leaver action just bragging rights. AND now they throw this beast into the mix...

In a lever rifle I'll take the 45/70 over either of those every time. Been around 100 years and has more power than needed for anything in North America in a strong action with some stout loads.

Not missing the point at all... Doesn't matter anyways the manufacturer has a no export policy on their products so we're not getting the .45 raptor any time soon. Unless someone wants to independently source the brass from a brass manufacturer.
