The best 375?

Does the .375 Ruger have the least recoil? Is the Ruger "African" an accurate rifle? Can it be accuratized?

Least recoil? Can't say. Is it an accurate rifle? Could be:). I received the scope I ordered yesterday so I finally got my African to the range today. Topped with a Vortex Viper 2-7X32, after a few initial teething problems I managed this. Out of the box, no bedding yet.

I'm not a big fan of the trigger quite yet, but we'll see how it goes.

I think I'm going to be pleased with the scope as well as the gun. I'll post initial impressions in optics.

Let me share a secret with you guys that are listening to the propaganda that is constantly being spewed in these pages...

All .375" cartridges are amazing accurate if you have a 375 whatever and it doesn't shoot it is the gun not the cartridge/bullet.

Well......Not in my experience.....Nosler agrees with me!:D

Let me quote something from the Nosler Reloading Guide (fifth edition).
"The most accurate of the .375's, the RUM has edged-out the old H&H as our standard test vehicle....."

Eventually the 375 Ruger will be old enough to be mentioned in reloading manuals....If it lives that long!
Perhaps Nosler will come out with a class for sawed off runts! LOL! :D :D

Scoff all you want, the New King will outsell the RUM's easily.;)

375 Rugers are being snapped up as soon as they hit the store shelves, while the RUM's are being largely ignored. Maybe if Remington had chambered it in a sensible rifle, it would sell better, but Remmy seems to like to do things the hard way..

I'm sure you are right...The 375 Ultra (as delivered) is a mean shooter-eating rifle. The Ruger looks reasonably well balanced, has a short barrel, and has that I'm a "bear stopping guide" look to it.
The stock er....I've already shot enough poorly stocked big bores to know better.:puke:

Ruger's Alaskan in 416 is going to upset most of the shooters that buy it....That crappy stock will be no fun at all.....Look for some used 416 Alaskans in the EE.
I'll be waiting!...Perhaps I should order a McMillan now!:D

I felt that the Hogue stock that is supplied was really good at soaking up the recoil. It has a big squishy recoil pad and was quite comfortable to shoot.

Unfortunately it's ergonomics were a bit "club" like, which is why I replaced it with something lighter and more streamlined.

I went into my local sporting goods store today to inquire about a 375 Ultra Mag and they laughed at me

LOL!

Well.....You should march back into that shop, stick out your chest, and tell them you're man enough for a real gun now!

Sorry!.....I couldn't resist! :D

Will?? Probably has already.:)

Nice shooting, wapitiwhacker. Looks like you got a keeper. Hope my LH 375 Ruger shoots something like that......

Show my a few different targets with that same group and I will be impressed....Wide view please!

wapitiwhacker

Here is a group I shot wiht the factory 270gr ammo...2 in one hole and one an inch away. This was before I had the trigger smoothed out, so the flyer could easily be me.

I'm thinking the 2 in one hole was the flyer...

All 375's are accurate I don't see how this is of any issue so it has the rainbow trajectory of and groups like a 375H&H whoopy do... :D

The H&H and Ruger have trajectories similar to the 30-06. It's relatively easy to make hits at 400+ yards with a 30-06 if you know how to shoot, so I'm not so sure the "rainbow" comment is valid.

maybe you are confused with the 375 Winchester?;)

I wish I could put up groups with my 375 like you guys do. I tend to be getting consitent 2.5"-3" groups, and I know for a fact it is my shooting that is the weakest link.

Do all of your rifles group like that?

The fact that you are getting consistent groups leads me to believe something is wrong with the rifle, scope, or load.

If all of your rifles group in the 2.5-3" range you need to have an experienced shooter help you. An improperly supported rifle or a trigger management problem will open groups like that....Not hard to fix.
