308win 130gr Barnes TTSX with 48gr varget and CCI200 primers out of my Howa Alpine.

Also split a case on the 3rd shot but the others were fine. I was using some once fired hornady that was left over from store bought ammo.

I'm thinking of unloading all my once fired 308 brass and just buying a box of lapua. Start fresh, little to no surprises.

that there isnt not a bad group at all. what caliber and what range is that. the case head seperation would make me wanna toss the lot... that just me.. stuck brass aint fun.. just sayin, i run Lapua in just about everyhing.. 22-250, 7mm-08, 280rem(30-06 brass necked down and fireformed back out). only thing left for me is 222 and 204.. but ive been looking at peterson brass heavily latley... they just dont make the brass im really in need for..

Do you have any idea what could have caused the case head separation? New to reloading.
 
Cut the other brass in half length ways. Look for stretch mark going around the inside of brass. if it's there try new brass and cut it to see if it's your gun or the gun the used brass came from. Never seen this in 308 but have in 3006.

Would you measure from the top of the shoulder where it meets the neck or bottom of the shoulder where it heads downward?

Okay I'll cut some once fired from yesterday and some I sized but never loaded.

I've shot factory ammo in this gun perhaps I'll cut that to see if there are any stretch marks but I suspect it was how I resized at this point.

Edit: I should say the brass I used to reload was shot in a different 308 not this one as all that brass was already tumbled and ready to go.

I have been reloading Winchester ammo in 308 (3 cycles) and they are still shooting sub MOA in 200 meters using 150G Hornady with H-380 powder. Winchester ammo is the cheapest for 308 and the case is reusable
 
So I cut open brass from factory rolled that was shot with this gun to sight in. One barnes one hornady and neither had any kind of stretch marks. Am I correct to think that this is a shoulder/sizing issue and not a headspace issue?

Yes. It probably won’t happen on the first but you’ll probably start to see it on the second firing. I set my fl dies up to basically just size the neck.
 
I guess I'll need to set up my sizing die better but I am also gonna order more brass cause I only had 50 of this particular brand/headstamp and I sized all 50 so I'm gonna chuck them out lol

Good idea to chuck them. You should set you sized die up with a bump gage like the Hornady one for a .002-.003 bump and always use the same shell holder that you used to set up your die. All shell holders are not the same. I once ruined 50 300 Win mag cases by switching shell holders.
 
I’ve had case head separation in .308 and 7mm.
You can usually see a ring around the case , where they’re going to separate, before it happens.
I think , in my case, it was from overworking the brass.
Now , I just FL every few firings.
Also , I think Hornady brass sucks:)

You can see rings on some of my brass now that I look closer.

I thought you had to FL after each firing?

I guess the most important is to mesure both at the exact same place. But honestly what I have done for the last 25 years is to start with the sizer too high to only neck resize until the bolt close hard. Usualy take 3-4 shots. Then I adjust the die down very little at the time until the bolt close smooth again. But having this issue with once fired brass and first reload, I would get the headspace checked asafp
