It depends what you want to do.
Longer range gopher and coyote shooting, go with magnified optics.
Close in, fast shooting you will want an Eotech. I used my Eotech out to 150 yards on coyotes and rabbits. It's mostly luck and multiple rounds down range, but doable.

I had Jeff at Valley Gunsmithing weld and tap a rail on mine. So Far I have used.
1. Elcan
2. Tasco varmint 2.5X 10
3. Leupold Tactical 3.5 X 10
4. Bushnell elite 3 X 9
5. Bushnell holosite low profile
I love the leupy for precision work, the holosite works great for rapids at under 100, the Elcan is a great short range hunting scope with limited light. The others are so so.

You're probably looking at over $1000 for an ACOG. Somewhere around $1500 if you want the whiz-bangs and doo-dads. I know, it's awfully expensive...but just about everyone that has one swears by them.
Elcan...depends on the model. I don't think that any of them are cheap, and you may be looking at up to $2000 for the top-end Spectre DR. Wolverine carries them.
I had mixed experiences with Elcan scopes when I was in the military, but they are a good quality scope with good optics. Much of the problem with the Canadian military Elcans was due to the constant use, misuse, and abuse that the scopes and the rifles (and LMG's) that they were on suffered. Also be aware that I was using the first generation of Elcans that got widely issued to the CF, and I think that they've improved their mount system since then. For range use, or bush use by someone who actually gives a d@mn about their gear, an Elcan might be just fine. That said, I hear that many of the guys deploying on recent rotations to Afghanistan are purchasing Eotechs or ACOGs to use instead of the issued Elcans. Any of the guys currently in uniform (or PMC's) care to comment?
As other folks have mentioned, it depends on what you are doing with your rifle. Only a few optics will give you the combination of 1X "red dot" type performance as well as 3X/4X for longer range use. Unfortunately, these are the pricy ones...most of them will cost significantly more than the rifle itself unless you get an incredible deal.

you can buy an eotch for close range, and a magnify scope to go in front of the holo when you need long range, it all depends on your budget, im on a low one so they have these "knock off" ones on ebay, with optics you get what you pay for.
That sounds like a recipe for an Eotech. I haven't used mine out beyond 50 meters yet, but so far I love it. Lots of folks have stated that they are more than happy with an Eotech out to the kind of ranges that you're talking about.
The other good thing about Eotechs is the price in comparison to ACOG/Short Dot/Elcan. I paid $420+GST for mine. TSE has them.
I went with the EOTech 552 for some simple reasons. From my understanding most AR180B-2's shoot about about 1.5MOA. If your shooting close targets (50-200 Yards) the EOTech will give you the best field of view, you can use it with both eyes open, lot of nice options, keeps its zero even after remounting (fairly well) etc. The one I have is waterproof (for hunting), runs on normal AA batteries (you can find them anywhere) and has various brightness settings so even in low light conditions you wont be blinded by the dot. Sure its a bit more expensive than the average reddot system, BUT you dont have to buy any rings to mount it. The base has a built in mount for a standard weaver or Piccatiny rail. So you can spend more on a quality sight rather than on a mount.
