I am in the market for a good pump gun for bear. I really like the 870 and am looking at a 870 Express Magnum. What I really want is the 870 police but where do you get them from? I cant seem to find them. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey billyc, what have you personally tried? And really, what will you be using it for MOSTLY, and do you have any other guns presently or in mind for the future?

No body wants just ONE shotgun, that's INSANE!

Well I have owned an 870 Express as well as a Benelli Nova in 12gauge pump. I really hated the 870 Express. It was a piece of crap in my opinion. Thing i hated the most was how fast the whole thing would start to corrode the minute the snow started to fly. I have a Winchester x2 so the pump gun would be my backup gun. I just got rid of the Nova to my cousin. I have always liked the fit and feel of the Browning BPS, and was suprised when i didn't hear anything on here about them. This gun would primarily used as a goose duck gun. I have an o/u for upland. I quite like the camo finish on the BPS. Does the Wingmaster have a camo version?

Model 12 Winchester followed by 870 REmington and Model 37 Ithaca. Of the three only the 870 remains available. Alas, I have to admit the Mossberg 500 Series now rules the rooost.

Stay Safe

mossberg 500 series has to be the best in my opinion. The location of the safety and the slide release are in a location where you don't have to remove your trigger finger from the guard. Much more ergonomic than an 870.

Thats my 2 cents worth.

I've owned a Mossberg 500, Winchester Model 12 and a Remington 870.

I kept the 870 and traded the rest. With a couple of barrels it does everything I want to do with a shotgun.

1- 870 Police
2- Benelli Nova
3- .......

Some people think that Mossberg was the only one to pass the US army test....they are absolutely right, but the thing they forget to tell, is that Remington did not even bother to enter the contest. Why??? Juste because they knew that the only thing they could not beat in the Mossy, was his price... (aluminium receiver = cheap)

Anybody who've been in the army or police force know that we trust our lives on the lowest bidder....that's the case with the Mossberg....

Over the last 60 years..WINCHESTER MODEL 12 by a landslide..nothing has proven to stand the test of time like these classics..Also loved the Ithaca Model 37 with bottom ejection..maybe time to get rid of a couple of Model 12's..who knows!
