I'm a huge fan of Archangel stuff. I have 4 of their stocks, and a pair of 1911 grips. I'm not super happy with the SKS Stock. Fairly expensive, hard to install, already lost a small piece. Anyone else have trouble with one of these? Or any suggestions/pics of your supped up rig? Here's my Archangel SKS stock with a little review if you've never seen one before, or are on the fence about getting one. My AK-47 wannabe

I never liked the look or idea of the AA from the get go.
The Intrafuse is marginally better, but still feels clunky and unnatural. The ATI Monte Carlo is VERY heavy, and the Strikeforce is anemic looking and flimsy feeling.
The Timbersmith is like the best aftermarket SKS stock, but a little to pretty for a rugged military semi auto IMHO.

I like detachable mags, but I'd sooner use them with the SKS factory wood stock instead.

I had someone else mention to tapco stock as well. I'm impressed enough with their magazine to be interested in their stocks as well. The wood that my SKS came in was in pretty hard shape. I always knew from day one I'd have to get some new furniture

I guess if your stuck on visual cool and pimping the look those aftermarket stocks are fine. They don't add anything else and are uncomfortable to use.

If you can find them once in a blue moon one of the early import Chinese fiberglass stocks they put on their SKS rifles shows up. They have a light reddish brown color but are tough as can be and completely impervious to the elements.
I had one of the rifles that came in that was originally stocked that way. It was a very good SKS all the way around. Just like the M14s that came in. guys rushed to find wood stocks for them. That was back in the day when black rifles with plastic stocks hadn't developed a following like they have now. The original stocks on M14s were wood and they started putting on plastic stocks because they were cheaper and because good walnut/birch was getting very hard to find in quantity.

The absolute best sks stock is the one it came in!!

Yup. All you have to do is learn how to handle it properly.

Put your face right close to the reciver cover so your cheek touches your thumb. You will get a better sight picture by doing so.

As Jerry Miculek proved. It's not the bow & arrow. It's the Indian.

I had a SKS in a Tapco, simply because the original SKS stock has a too-short LOP for my liking. I was offered too much money for it to say No (I had a receiver cover scope mount and 4x scope on it too-decent little deer rifle out to about 200 yds max).

I see you have your Rear Sight set up really high..., Is that to compensate for the High Check weld ??
I put an after market stock on my 590 and I had the same problem. I had to crunch my face to see the sights,..so I installed a Drop-block , and solved my problem.

Its all about the slip-on recoil pad.

Not that the recoil reduction is needed, but the extra length of pull it provides is perfect. I have one I bought for like $12 outta walmart, Allen brand I think it is... Fits nicely on both my SKS and my Lee Enfield no1mk3. Makes both rifles a lot nicer to hold/shoot, and Im not a big guy - only 5'8".

I also dont like detachable mags for the SKS though. Stripper clips are so fast to reload, and take so little space, I could carry 20 rounds on 4 strips (5 per strip, 'cause 10 is useless.) for every 1 magazine someone else has... And my buddy has a tapco stock/mag, and its a pain to try and feed one round at a time with the mag installed. It'll feed stripper clips fine, but single rounds seem to get caught on the back edge or something.

Funny you noticed. Actually when I installed the stock, all of a sudden the gun was shooting way low. So I bumped the back sights to the 400 years mark just to get it to hit POI at 100 yards. Not sure what caused that.

the original wood stock with a $10 slip-on recoil pad to fix the short length of pull.
I prefer stripper clips over the crappy duckbill mags that are huge and still only hold 5 rounds

Want to actually improve the SKS? Pay someone $50 to fix the trigger - or do it yourself for free.

Lol, that's awesome. I guess I'm just not a purist like a lot of people when it come to the milsurp stuff. I also have a Archangel stock for a Mosin nagant which Mosin purists hate as well. And the magazine for that doesn't work very well at all. Lesson learned, I guess some things are better left untouched. Upgrades for modern firearms only

I put a side folding Tapco on my SKS-D about 20 year's ago. Make's it easy to store in my Geo Tracker
I also picked up a thumbhole stock for my other one, and it just feel's right.
