Made this stock a couple of years ago, wanted something different. I can drop it ( I have, hard!!) and doesn't hurt my feelings.
Would have like, at the time to find a shorter 10 / 5 shoot detachable mag for it though.
Cheers

LOL. I think that I read this somewhere before. It was after I installed a Timbersmith stock on my SKS and chopped off the bayonet. I am not an aficionado of the platform and don't really care. Firearms ownership to me is all about having fun. Some firearms become casualties in the process...especially the cheaper ones in my collection.

Sorry couldn't resist, so i called Ivan Chesnokov

I like the tacticool look sometimes. My dad put together a nice Tapco SKS but there's something authentic about a nice refinished classic stock on an SKS but with a 20 or 30 round mag to give it more of an assault rifle look. It gives the gun a more aggressive look while maintaining the old Russian look.

What wood did you use and how long did it take you?

RE PROMAG ARCHANGEL AASKS STOCK

Hi Segue2002,
Well, I just got one from US for 183 CaD w/ shipping incl.
Just installed it and I agree the gas tube was the most problematic.
I managed to put it together.
Here is the video, it's in Russian, but I'll translate it into English soon.
There are 2 key problems with the Gas Tube Cover:
1) You have to unpin the gas tube cover by drilling into the pin itself w/ the bit of smaller diameter and then take it away with the hummer and a metallic rod of some kind (made of steel; you mae use one from the cleaning kit, just do not hammer in to much). When pinning it back, you have to hummer-pin in and smoothen it after to fit. You may use a simple knife to make the pin smooth, since it's aluminum. Unfortunately, most of the videos on assembly do not explain this or just insert the pin w/o pin-hammering it (which is wrong), but this is something obvious for me as a Russian guy and the thing we were taught in the Soviet Union School during manual labor classes as well as during classes of Military Service Initiation, which were also obligatory in USSR.
2) you will also have to sand the base of the plastic cover so the holding lock, by the sights closes and fixes the gas tube tight.

There other problem is that apparent AK-like plastic in the end of the stock is not mobile and to disassemble the trigger group you have to take apart whole gun.

The 3rd problem, which is not that critical is that the sliding stock is soooooo stiff...

The 4th problem-there is no accommodation for the knife

The 5th, for the money it costs, I'd expect at least 1 Picatinny Rail somewhere for the forward grip or a tactical light

Otherwise:
Plastic is of very strong good quality carbon fiber, very scratch resistant. Not really low weight though
Definitely, it has reacher look comared to TAPCO, for example (IMHO)
And the MAIN reason, why I baught it: THE PISTOL GRIP is a monolith w/ the stock = no screws etc.
AK look at the back of the stock also attracted my attention, no doubt. But, again, there is a price to pay for it :(

This one looks very nice!

I like the original factory stocks, and while sometimes I can find them to be a bit short I use a slip-on extender/pad. I have too many rifles to modify them all, and while after market mags were a great idea when we had no mag capacity restrictions, I can't justify the bother and cost of fitting them now. I can load much faster with a stripper clip if only 5 or ten rounds.

At the end of the day, I guess it doesn't cost me a thing to modify my rifles and I have more cash for ammo and more rifles.

I bought a Tapco dark earth Intrafuse stock for my Russian Tula and my wife got all pissed off at me for "ruining the look of it". People get so offended because its an antique but they just don't get how many of these were manufactured. I have been temped to order another one and keep it original so she can't harp on me about it anymore.

Love the Folding ATI skorpion SKS stocks! Fits great no need for modding and works awesome with th adjustable cheek riser it feels Right!

The ATI is the worst and my least favorite by far. Anemic looking, fragile pistol grip, impeding & impractical forend rails and wobbly buttstock.
