So looking at a 22, and would like to know the savage differences between the MkII FV heavy barrel synthetic and the MkII BTVS?

Is the BTVS really worth it, almost 200+$ more!

What kind of groups are people getting with the MkII FV? I have seen excellent results with the BTVS.

As well, a friend brought up the question are both heavy barrels subject to the same barrel processes? Quality Control process etc.

I am really interested in hearing the MkII FV reviews for the 22lr.

Thanks for all the help in advance.

I have MkII FV and getting really good groups with it. I used to keep on posting groups pictures on a monthly basis seems like. I think "how good Savage MkII" should be stikied. Same as "1022 vs 597". If cheaper Fv model is so accurate I would rather expect similar accuracy out of BTVS. Is 200$ extra worth it? Depends on how important feel of real wood and ergonomics of thumbhole stock to you. I'd say yes.

F- Synthetic
B- Laminate
T-Thumbhole
V- Heavy Barrel
S- Stainless

Should be able to figure out which model is which :D

Is a wood stock important to you? Do you prefer stainless or blued?

I went with the BV...

I have a 93 FV which is a .22 magnum version of the FV. I love it, it is my favourite rimfire gun. In a 15 shot group, 10 of the shots were under half an inch at 60 yards.

How much are you getting the FV for? The BTVS was on the rack at Russell's for $369 (I think it was, maybe 6 weeks ago). I would pay quite a bit extra for the very nice laminate thumbhole stock, but that is me. I'm not a fan of plastic on my rifles.

I understand the codes, I was asking if I were to shoot 10 rounds with the FV and the same amount with the BTVS what is the difference in groups?

The big difference is how the stock fits you. I find the synthetic's wobbly and feel very thin. The wood has heft and stability, and just feels better in the overall scheme of things (IMHO). They'll probably group close to the same, it comes down to how comfortable is the rifle to you.

I have a MKII FV.... I have ragged 1 hole groups @ 50yrds.... using the stock 5 shot mags, a friend of mine has a MKII F? (no heavy barrel) and his groups are not quite as good.

I found that I had to tweak the stock on my 93R, but the MKII shot & felt good right out of the box.

Aftermarket stocks are available for the 93R & the MKII..... buy the cheap one and try it out..... then upgrade after the fact, I found that the factory thumbholes didn't have enough cheek rise to suite me.

I found a web site, where they offer after market stocks for the savages, that is probably where I will end up buying stocks for both of my Savage rimfires....

They have alot more options for colors as opposed to the factorey Red for the 93 and grey for the MKII......

Good luck

I have the MK II FV in .17M2. I can't put this gun down. Super accurate although the trigger is heavier than I like it isn't an ugly trigger. I breaks clean enough. I've been snipering starlings lately out to 60 yards and the few misses are my fault. It wears a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5. I love this gun!

You should have an accutrigger. Take the action off the stock, and adjust. Frankly, if 1.5lbs of trigger pull is too 'heavy' from a rifle costing only a few hundred bucks... I think you're dreaming in technicolor...

I own a BTVS and my dad has a FV and they are both really great shooting guns , but you do get what you pay for cause the BTVS does shoot a tad better and it looks alot nicer too.

It all comes down to the stock and if you can make it work for you.
