The big VZ24 picture thread

Sorry this is the clearer picture I can take... We cleary see the romanian crest. However it is partially removed. We see the circle and the both C are not so visible in the picture but I can see them. The crown was totally removed when refinishing.

Yeah, I have yet to see one of these RC's with more of a crest that that. I wonder if any of this import's Romanian crests remain intact?

Unlikely. Unground King Carol Romanians are extremely rare. Ball doesn't even have a picture of one in his book.

Of course, Ball wrote the book before this import of RC guns...

Jean Plamondon would know as he went through the Tradex rifles when they first came in.

a couple years back i asked at tradeex about crests, i was told none were intact.

Got mine cleaned up at last, 1937-made VZ24 built for the Czech army, likely used by the Germans until either given to Romania mid-war or captured by the Russians and then given to Romania :) Stock is nice walnut, the handguard is beech with a repair. Color match is pretty good.

It's in pretty nice shape. After three overnights with foaming bore cleaner, lots of scrubbing, and soaking in Hoppes for a few days, the bore is still not as clean as I would like. It was MEGA-fouled with cupro-nickel, brass and lead. The bore is not shiny-bright, but is getting steadily better. I think it will clean up to sharp rifling with light frosting in the grooves. It's not tearing patches, but the fouling is slow to dissolve.
