Anyone interested in building or gunsmithing might want to check out this forum:

www.homegunsmithing.com

And if you want plans of various 50 BMG homebuilts, go to www.gmail.com look for:

homegunsmith

and use the password:

roderus

then check the All Mail list on the left side of the screen

I just checked, and there are several plan sets fro 50BMG here still. And LOTS of other gunsmith books, too.
Perhaps Wally could upload some more stuff to the gmail account, too.

Also, Gmail is by invitation, and I see that there are 100 invites left, so feel free to send one to however.

Silent storm

Sorry all, I thought that this thread was dead and haven't looked at it in quite a while.

The .50 rocks! We have fired over 200 rounds through it without a hitch. The recoil is about that of a 12 gauge, not much impact but lots of shove. We can repeatedly hit a 12" square plate at 300m with just a pistol scope. Not much left of our double thickness plates. Once I get a muzzle break on it I can put a better scope on it.

The cost was low but there were a lot of hours in it. Now that I have moved and almost have my shop up and running I am considering finding out what it takes to get a manufacturers' license. Know anyone who would like a .50 BMG for about $1200-$1500 depending on options?

would you guys seriously sell a 50 bmg silentstorm in stainless weighing 97 lbs? i actually think id save money for something like that

edit:

ok i heard im wrong fro the weight, ho wmuch does this thing weigh?

The barrel (uncut) weighs in around 38 lbs. I didn't try to keep the weight down, sooooo the Silent Storm weighs in around 50 lbs. This is nice as it keeps the recoil down. After the muzzle break goes on I may put it on a diet and add the bipod. I haven't done any parts in stainless yet, just 4140, which is a nice tool steel.

Did'nt you guys see the videos of the cheerleaders shooting the Silentstorm?.

Here is a recoil shot that Goingloud took...........

Not sure where the video is........

Wow. Nice job on the .50 :)

I would definately also be interested if you decided to build more of them. I would also like to see that vid you shot of it being fired.

I have shot a .50BMG AR-50 before and it will bloody well suck the wind out of your lungs with the muzzle brake, so I can imagine that thing is the same. :D
