The new Lee-enfield story will be out of the printers in about two weeks. Folding and binding going on now.,
the book will have 608 pages, each page is full A4 (slightly larger than before)so each photo is coreespondingly larger. 5 new chapters and 16 colour plates
Price for standard edition $79.50 U.S.
And the presentation edition, with gold embossing, gilded page ends, red, white, and blue ribbon markers, slip case, and signed, will be $155 (green money) 303 numbered copies. #1 and 303# are gone.

I really don't think the presentation edition will last very long, but I have emailed Skennerton to reserve my copy. He said availibility will be posted on the bulletin board at www.skennerton.com. BUT you can Email him as he is starting a list for that one. (you can at least see the cover of the standard edition on his website.)

this from an Email from Ian as of yesterday.

Thanks John. I found a Canadian supplier (thanks to BadgerDog on Milsurps) and have reserved a copy. Should be about $100 CD.

I bet that they will go!

For sure...lots of interest in Enfields these days and I hope Ian makes a good buck from this book.
I had heard ominous things about the pricing, I kind of got the idea it was like $250US, so when I heard this price it was a no brainer. :D

Skennertons book on Lee-Enfield

I have about 20 of Skennertons books about half are autographed. I really like his books and have used them for years. The one on the British Service Lee, and British & Commonwealth Bayonets are great. I have found many items by having Skennertons books for reference at shows, they have probably paid for themselves ten times over.
I just contacted him and reserved mine, April 26th.

Other Useful Books

The other books I have purchased in the past and really like are, Collector Grade Publications books I have about 12 or 15 of them. I purchased a really great book on Mausers (Backbone of the Wehrmacht, The German K98k Rifle 1934 – 1945), from a gentleman in Fredericton last year and found the information extremely helpful.

Another good book out there for rifle collectors is Mauser Military Rifles of the World, third addition by Robert W. D. Ball

A good book for the beginner military collector to look for is Small Arms of the World. I just got a list of books from a friends estate and there is an older version of the book in the collection. Most of his books are Shooters Bibles and old magazines but the Small Arms is the only good reference book. I will have it up for sale later this month for the family.

Lets put it this way, the Lee Enfield story by Skennerton IS THE BIBLE for Enfield collectors. Even the second edition is hard to find these days because people DO NOT sell their copies!;)

Latest ETA on 'The Lee Enfield" book!

Hi from Bangkok,
Still here with the presentation clip case editions. Regular editions are all done now, although the container to the west coast will not likely arrive until the end of June, making availability early July. Please check the Bulletin page at www.skennerton.com for eta's.

Price for shipping (we are having special shippers made too as the book is 2.5kg!) will probably be about $5-6 extra.

Cheers,
Ian Skennerton

It sounds like you should definitely reserve soon , either with Murray Militaria or with Skennerton in Oregon.

Skennerton Books On Firearms

The only Lee-Enfield book available before Skennerton published the British Service Lee, was a book by Major E.G.B. Reynolds printed in 1960.

Major Reynolds published a book titled "The Lee-Enfield Rifle", of 220 pages but nothing like the "British Service Lee". It took me 7 years to find the book by Major E.G.B. Reynolds because it was "The Only Reference Book" that you could get if you collected Lee-Enfields. Reynolds books were hard to find and buying one for less than $75 was a steal.
