The Brixia (Valtro) PM5 super thread!

Did a bit of tinkering on the SAP6 mag mod.

You can see the scribe marks on the front feed lips. Tape the mags together and you can trace the PM5.

Some filing is needed to reshape the "tabs" if your welds are proud.

Front before welding the small tab in place

First mag took about 3 hours, second took 2 hours. 1st one is a little on the crude side... haha But hey, I am by no means a machinist, fabricator, nor welder!!

For the rear tab, the small ramp is not really needed.

You can see the new profile of the front feed lips, and I took a small amount off the front of the follower so it wouldn't interfere with the feed ramp.

This modification could be done with very minimal tooling. The bulk of the work is done with a hacksaw and a file. I cycled through the mags a few times and they seem to run good so far.

Range time tomorrow.

Wow excellent work! What did u use to get small welds like that ? I'm planning to do the same, but still trying to figure what method I should use to attach the tabs to the very thin tin of the SAP mags. And I'm not a welder either haha

Kelly sporting goods has or had 20" barreled Valtros this winter when I bought mine. The model they carry is very simple though, no rail on top, nor pre tapped holes for one. Plus the front sight on mine came freaking soldered at the 1o clock position! Italians arnt made entirely out of quality haha. But this is no problem for me cus I fully intend to drill tap a rail to the gun and mount a Vortex venom to it.....

I used a mig welder. I'm sure tig would have made for a lot lower profile welds, but I didn't want to bug anyone to help me lol. I was actually surprised how high of settings worked the best. I used 170v and 16-17 wire speed. I did a few practice ones on some scrap material.

Well, going to need to redo the rear tabs. They both snapped off immediately. I feared this would happen as I needed to file away most of the weld to reshape the tab.

Gonna try building the tab just with weld, then file it into shape or "machine" a thicker piece of steel so it's all one piece.

Drill a hole in the tab... Spot weld inside the hole :)

Great idea BTW! I buy a couple once you have it worked out. ;)

Yeah, was thinking about drilling through the back plate and welding to the back side of the tab.

I think id actually rather have it be one piece. On the Brixia mags they are milled from a solid piece of metal.

Ahh I see that now this morning (I was looking at the pics on my cell phone last night.)
At any rate, do post pics when you have one going. :)

So just got an update regarding the chokes from Brignoli... They emailed me and said they won't be available from Gemini until June/July.

I believe I've got the SAP6 mag retrofit sorted out!

Building the tabs with weld seemed to be the way to go.

Then file it into shape

Once I get them them cleaned up a bit and sanded, I'll experiment with some bluing.

I tested the two completed mags at the range Tuesday evening and they ran well. I think I need to sand down a tiny dimple of over penetration that caused a shell to not get pushed up all the way on one mag.

Mine was done by tig.
Tab were machined from a single piece. So far holding up perfect.

Also, using the SAP6 mags the bolt will not lock back on last which is perfect for those moments where you need to chamber load.
(Trying to chamber load with the stock PM5 mags is a PITA. Best to do it with the mag clear and over rotating the shotty)

Looks like it is coming along nicely :)

If you plan on running multiple SAP6 mags on your person during matches I would love to see how you are carrying it and would also like to see a video of you running with it.

Would love to machine these from a single piece like the actual ones are. Would definitely be a little more pretty looking if I could TIG ;) but hey, I'm able to make these with zero cost...only time.

Ive currently got a machinist friend working on the stock adaptor. He quoted me a really good price!

One of my buddies suggested carrying these more horizontally in the small of your back. If I can figure out how to rig it, it sounds like that would be the most comfortable/most secure.

Ok, so explain this to the guy who got kicked out of metal work in the first week for making shuriken...

You're blobbing a bunch of weld on and then filing it to the correct shape once it hardens?
