The CANADIAN Ruger Gunsight Scout Discussion Thread

How do you guys find the field of view and balance point of your rifles with scout mounted scopes? I have the hilux 2-7x32 and am considering mounting a conventional scope on it because it balances funny and i find staring down the limited field of view (especially when cranked to >4x mag) to be slightly annoying. For those who have used both kinds of scopes, how did you adapt?

I had same problem and decided to mount a traditional scope with the factory rings.
My friend has one with XS rail and a bushnell red dot and it balances nice.
I've yet to install my XS rail, when I do I'm going to switch between a nikon 2-8x36 normal eye relief and my leupold prismatic, both mounted above the action.
Then it will be a super light carbon fiber composite stock, custom weighted to make the rig balance at the mag ;)
I do wish the scout was a wee bit lighter but overall, I'm pretty happy with them. My wife, a new shooter/hunter finds the walnut stocked model , a perfect fit , which is a bonus

Here is one of the new composite models. Best one yet imho. Very light, nicely balanced and the brake makes it seem like an air rifle. It's wearing a Zeiss terra 2-7 x32 on an XS rail. The only short coming is the trigger ....and I might do some stippling on the stock. May have to ask Santa for a Spec Tech trigger.

Had some range time tonight and only was able to try 6 shots with it (boresighted it yesterday)
My .308 load consists of Norma case, CCI BR-2 primer, 42.2gr IMR 4064 and 180gr Nosler Partition bullet.
I'm just a middle aged geek shooting from a Lead Sled and not that great a shot.
1st 3 shots were a solid 1 inch. Adjusted scope and cleaned the bbl. 2nd group was 3/8"!

Now I'm scratching my head wondering why I've paid more for other rifles that don't perform like the Ruger

Just you and yer need to bring it up
It was clearly an ammo issue , you've been reminded of this in the numerous threads you've trolled it in.
Yet, here you are again adding nothing of significance to a perfectly enjoyable thread.
Thanx for comin out bud.

Yet
care to post some links, because I have not seen anyone post that it was the factory ammo, and if it was proven, what did the ammunition manufacturer do for the op?

burnsy56, I went with the same rail and scope combo for my scout as well. I haven't had a chance to get it out to the range yet, but when I get home and have some leave I'll be playing with it a lot.

As for Brian46, he likes to contribute nothing but negative feedback for the most part unless he is talking about the Bushmeaster ACR. Just swing by the black rifle section if you want to see further proof of it.

I shouldn't have said it was an ammo issue in my post above, because really, I have no idea. Tho my educated guess leans very heavily that way.

I took my laminate scout down today to get her ready for a weekend range session. I did find something that made me go hmmmmmmm. So I pulled out my 2 other ruger m77 pattern rifles and compared the 3 bolts.
On the outside lower edge of my extractor, running in a front to back of the bolt direction , for about 1/2" at the front, there seems to be a burr forming that I see no evidence of on my 2 other ruger bolts.
My other scout is 5 hours away at home in the vault so can't compare.
When I get home in a few days I'm gonna send some pics to ruger.
Anyone else have a burr like feature on lower edge of ectractor arm at front?

Composite stock sucks A$$. The trigger guard is molded into the stock and no magazine liner. I thought I wanted one of the composite models till I held one at SHOT. Piece of crap IMHO. I think I'm just going to buy a laminated stock model and put a mcmillian stock on one.

I have one in 5.56 16.5" threaded and it is sweet. Bought it from Prophet River and its been to the range more times than all my other guns this year. Also, if you can't find Ruger mags, Cadex brand mags are just Accurate Mags the same as the oe mag but without the Ruger logo stamped in the floorplate. Its been dead nuts reliable and a ton of fun to shoot.
