OH YEAH!!! I am now a full-fledged member of the AR-15 club.

I got myself a classic Colt AR-15 SP1 complete with triangular handguards and no forward assist. I can't wait to take 'er to the range tomorrow and put a few rounds down the pipe!

Right now I only have 1 20/5 Colt mag, but I have ordered a couple of the 10 round pistol mags from Marstar, along with 400 rounds of ammo, so I should be good to go soon enough. For tomorrow, I picked up 5 boxes of Remington UMC 55gr FMJ rounds from LeBaron for $7.63/20 rd box.

I know there are some tricks when it comes to cleaning these, so if anyone can give me some tips about that or anything else I should know, I'd really appreciate it!

Here are a few pics.

Cheers!

Very nice!
Now that you have began at the beginning of the series, you will be lured into getting the smaller, racier ones and be forced into a life of eating KD :)

Good Morning Viet Nam! That's a nice example of the classic sp1. Where did you find it?

PS Go to ar15.com for all your info

Got 'er in the EE. The triangular handguard models have always been my favourite ARs, so when I saw this one pop up for $900.00 on the EE, I jumped at it!

I love this place! Almost all the guns I own have come from members here.

Cheers!

NIce Clammy! I never really liked the SP1, but if it gets you in the black rifle hobby, then it's the best rifle ever! Enjoy!

Good start. SP1s are an under-rated rifle here in Canada. For $900ish you get a nice classic/retro rifle with colt's great quality. If you want to get into assembling ARs then you can do what I did and start peicing together SP1s. Its kinda fun to go to gunshows and rumage through a seller's parts box, only to be pleasantly surprised to find a peice that you're missing.

Good job sir... NICE original one... Makes me want to go watch Apocalypse Now... :D

Looks like you and I both joined the AR club this week!

Mine ain't so purty as yours, but I like it.. Here's a pic! :)

Are you closs to ottawa?

I took her out and put about 100 rounds through her yesterday, and boy is she ever sweet! I'm still getting used to how to sight properly with the peep/front post system, but I managed to get a fair number of rounds into the black at 100 yards, including one that was dead center in the 10 ring! And, I guess SP1's with triangular handguards aren't all tha common, cause she was getting lots of attention! :D

Cheers!
