the closest shot

My closest was 9 yards. I was sitting in my ground blind half asleep when I looked up and saw the buck walk past at about 5 yards. I have a reflex sight on my Excalibur Vixen crossbow and it wasn't even turned on. The buck stopped at 9 yards. I managed to get the sight turned on without spooking him and took the shot. He ran about 30 yards and collapsed. He had two long spikes with a few small points. Field dressed about 210 pounds.

Spined 5 deer from 23 feet up with a bow,did a lot of practice to do it everytime. At the deer camp I had never seen a moose in 20 years of hunting there but 2 years ago while sitting in my tree stand I herd a sloshing sound in the grassy swamp in front of me.I thought it was my buddy coming in the argo.As it neared the middle it got shallower and you could see its head, then more and more of it.It was a big cow going straight across in front of me 200 yard out, half way accross she turned and came my way.To cool I was going to get a good look at her.35 yards in front of me she stepped out of the water and shook off, trotted 10 yards away and stopped to look around.Nice swamp donkey, then she walked right under me and into the spruse swamp behind me.Out of season.

I was prone to fold a bedded doe whitey with a clean head shot, just shy of 200. She obviously flopped over instantly. There were several other animals that I had not seen that had been bedded in dead ground and were instantly on their feet and came straight towards me. I took a second doe and a nice fat 4 pointer out of the bunch, still coming straight at me, both at less than 20 metres. I did not have to move an inch from my initial prone position so none of the deer knew where the shots came from. Another smaller buck and a fawn damn near stepped on me as they ran past.
