Hey guys. I'm new to AR's and bought a 7.5" variant (not Colt) on impulse two months ago and holy #### it is the most fun I've had shooting in years. It shoots like a laser out to 35 yards which is all I bought it for.

Anywho, now that I'm hooked I'd like to get a more serious gun for 50 - 200 yard range zombie apocalypse, EOTW, SHTF. I don't have a massive budget for the rifle so I need to spend max $1500 wisely.

I'm really leaning towards the 6940. I don't need to change out or customize the rails. I would use it exactly as it is. Just put an optic and foregrip and looking for good accuracy.

How do you like your Colt 69XX rifle? Which did you buy and why? Would you do it again or buy a different variant?

That IRG sale is looking pretty good right now! ;)

cant go wrong with colt and irg or dd and wolverine. either are super.
i got the 6920 added a noveske nsr, troy gas block, timney trigger, ctr stock, and spikes dynacomp extreme. The nsr runs a little hot, but i have small feminine hands so i needed a really slim handguard. I just use gloves.

nice looking gun Mike. Where did you buy the Noveske? In Canada or order from the US? Timney trigger worth the dough over stock?

Just when I thought I had picked the rifle...that DDV5 is looking pretty nice!

the timney 667s is a really light very small travel single stage 3 pound trigger, I personally really like it, some people prefer a 4 pound 2 stage trigger, you should try both before investing over the stock trigger.
The noveske nsr keymod I actually got on amazon.com, the low profile troy gas block i got from brownels.
The nsr required a gunsmith for me, my level of skill and knowledge are just not capable enough for me to do it myself.
I also got kns locking pins, some people say its useless some people say its essential, your mileage may vary.

p.s. the nsr runs hot by the way, its very narrow, so you'll need a glove when using it.

The Geiselle SSA / SSA-E is an amazing trigger and I have one in my V5.
To be honest it has spoiled me, but don't upgrade right away. Shoot lots of ammo stock then decide what you need.

You can not go wrong with a colt or daniel defense. If looking to save a few dollars my stags have also been fantastic rifles with lifetime warranty. A great cost effective trigger is the geissle g2s. I have a ssa/ssae/g2s and they are all good upgrades.

I know the Colts are the ####, and I do like my 6940. However, I confess to being a massive Daniel Defense fan. I'd go Daniel Defense. I'd also consider the Sig rifles, but that won't be a popular opinion here.

OP,
For what you have stated you can't go wrong with the Colt 69XX series. Buy one before the sales disappear. Now.

Edit: I never owned a Colt 6920 since they used to be a little hard to get and a bit expensive. I do have a couple of friends who had some and they looked at those as the gold standard (before C7-C8 Diemaco started selling to the public). The rifle was worth it when it was $2800, it is an awesome deal right now at ~$1500.

The DDs are also great rifles and incredible values with the Wolverines sales in the last little while.

I'd echo the Colt and DD opinions expressed so far. I run a 6920 with DD accessories. I've handled the DD, Both are awesome rifles, but I'm a Colt fanatic so that'd be my personal choice. You won't find a better rifle for the price, with IRG right now.

I've never had that issue with any of my nsr railed guns, I run noveske barrels and I run them hard. It does get warm but not to the point of wearing gloves.

Vancouverbc I got my nsr's from rdsc they have tons of noveske parts so far I've built an afghan, crusader & 10.5 300 blkout with all noveske parts. The diplomat is next

i guess we have different tolerances for heat, ran mine saturday, after about 150 rounds in about 15 minutes I put on some gloves.
Mind you, you can put the plastic panels on it and it will greatly help with the heat, i didn't put mine on i like the feel of the rail on my hand.

Thinking the contour of the barrel could play a part in it. I like the slim feel of the nsr as well, very easy to wrap my whole hand around.

I guess I should stay on topic. If it were me I'd buy the 6940 from IRG, you can't beat that deal. It's ready to go like your looking for slap an optic and and forward grip on it and your slaying paper.

thanks for all the feedback guys! Gotta laugh...started the thread about to buy a 6940 and ended up buying a DDV5. That gun is just too awesome at $1299 to pass up!
