The coolest SKS you'll ever see.

Armedsask,

Will you be adding any sort of mechanism to prevent out-of-battery firing like the original trigger group has? The project looks good so far, and shows some real ingenuity, but would be quite dangerous without said mechanism.

Cheers,
Michael in Edmonton

Garand, at the moment I haven't addressed that issue. The project is still in the very early stages and I'm a long way away from ever fireing live ammo through it.

looks good armed quite creative to say the least can i make one suggestion though
considering your in the early stages have a look at aluminum in stead of steel when you start building the final shell it'll cut even more weight and you can polish the crap outta it and make it pimptastic

Somewhere I have real AK-47 plans with exact measurements.
Got 'em already. You can get an AK reciever flat template at www.nonguns.com for free.

If any one has the AK47 reciever flat template in a .dxf, .dwg, or any CAD file that would be great. I'm going to make a new flat template.

I'll have a look at aluminum but steel is a lot stronger and I'm not set up to weld aluminum. Also, once I make the bending dies and get the final design worked out, it wouldn't be that hard to make a couple if you guys want one. Heck, I'm planning to make 3 just for myself. One with AK underfolder, one with the ACE side folder I've got in the parts bin, and one with solid synthetic furniture.

I need to buy more SKS D's. :D
I'll have some more updates tomorow night as I'm planning to spend Sunday in the shop getting this final prototype finished and maybe even test firing.

I can hardly see the difference between your build and an AK!
And that's the whole point. :D

i'll try to rip it to an autocad file for you its PW locked so it'll take me a couple days to export through coreldraw

Armedsask

I have DWG file of a AK receiver let me know if you want it I can give ju FTP access to my server ...and you can download it.

I would definitely be interested in buying a folded lower if you made them available. I've got an AK jones like nothing else. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for sure!

If I have anything available it would be just the "reciever" blank. You'd have to add the furniture, trigger parts, etc. as well as final fitting.

Did some more work today. Pretty much only thing left is too get the mag catch and trigger guard made. Also some final adjustments to get it operating properly.

Great work , Armedsask. You can't just give up on this!!!! In order to keep you busy even more try the next level - AK top cover installation.
Here is how I did it but I am sure you can make it even better. Keep converting !!!!

All of Kasat's are SKS D's, you can tell by the distance of the trigger from the mag catch (among other things).

Kasat, I was waiting for you to get in this thread. :D

Did you modify the shape of the top covers (ie: widening)? I've got a top cover here and don't like how high it sits. I'm thinking of bashing it out so it's wider and fits the bolt much closer.

Only the middle one has the AK cover installed , the others have a standard SKS cover modified by welding the rear part ( this is very tricky !!!).
The AK top cover is a must to get closer to the BAD ONE look. It is time consuming. The skeleton SKS top cover must be installed since it serves as a rear part of the rails for the bolt carrier. AK cover then fits without modification except for the small cut out on the left side to secure the front of the cover to the receiver as per pics.
