The coolness of cartridges...

45/70 is without a doubt the Coolest cat around !!:cool:

It's been killing $hit since most of these cartridges weren't even feasable, there isn't anything alive that it can't kill, you can load it up or down, and with the proper bullets it don't matter.

The ultimate barometer of cool in regards to the 45/70 is as follows:
-people with no clue about ballistics think that it's some kind of super
elephant slayer

-people who figure they "know ballistics" tell you that you'd be better of
throwing rocks than using that ancient lead lobber.

In spite of this when you shoot anything in the "front half" it dies, end of story , next please :shotgun: :dancingbanana:

A hot 45/70 load in a Ruger #1 is definitely an elephant killer. A 500gr slug at nearly 1850 fps is getting close to a 458 win mag. I have always wanted a 45/70 in a bolt gun but then part of me thinks that maybe I should just buy a 458 win mag instead.

Well said, but according to less informed on site, if it isn't the newest Rugchewer Rump Dump Magnum then it can't kill anything.

To me old skool is kool.

.404 Jeffery
6.5x54 Mannlicher-Schoenauer
9.3x62
.250-3000 Savage
7x57

I also think wood stocks are kool. Especially with fine figure and an oil finish.

I have a 9mm hand gun

I hold my "nine" sideways and start rap'n every time I shoot it.

It's cool and so am I.

All this really did was put you in a category with Vanilla Ice and the white kid from the "Pretty fly for a White Guy" video. Realistically we don't know where that is, but it is not anywhere near cool.

The James Dean of all cartridges is the .270 WCF. Why? Because J O'C used it and he was the coolest gun scribe ever.....
The 338-06 (or .333 OKH) is the John Wayne of cartridges, because Ol' Elmer basically invented it, it ain't flashy, it gets the job done right now, but it looks mean and you don't want it to punch you in the face.

You're right once again, VERY James Dean aka very ### ;)

First off Gatesy, spelling cool 'kool' is ghey. :slap:

And on the 308 being unkool let me just say this about that. The 308 is long past unkool. In fact it is so cool that when I ordered a new one in Ruger a couple years back Whoresale spts only had one. In Canada. That makes it cooooooool. But in an I don't give a #### kind of way

Not that any of this matters.... but someone has to stand up for the grandaddy of KOOL.

Code:
30-06
About as UNKOOL as you can get, if housed in a typical bolt action. If it is in a M1 Garand, it gets cool points. If it's a Mdl 1895 Lever action, you are into full on Koolness, and it's about as Kool as a 30-06 will ever be...

Two world wars, a number of "Peacekeeping" and "Police" conflicts, an ark or 20 worth of dead critters, and still competitive ballistics (despite all these new super whizbang magnums).

Kool? KOOL? It's downright ###y! This is the rutting bull of cartridges surrounded by lesser developed and less able mediocrity!

Nothing KOOLER than a Mauser 98 action in 3006.

Now if we are talking uncool....
- all wsm's
- all saums
- all um's
- and especially the Ruger .375 because it wanted to be an H&H when it grew up but never made it so it tries to compensate by...

 :stirthepot2: :nest:
