Had a great day out walking.

Saw not much in the way of critters, but a few tracks and a couple new places that I had not seen before.

Kinda sucked for a hunt. Not really sucked, but, hey, I was supposed to be out hunting, eh!

I parked myself on a slope leading down to a river, and had a good view of the flat below.

Did a little grunting, and stood still and watched and waited.

About 20 minutes after I was settled in, I caught a little tiny movement through he trees. Antlers!

He was not running the opposite direction, so either he was coming in to check out the grunting, or he was stone deaf and oblivious. :D

He stepped into a clear(ish) lane about 15 or 20 seconds after I first saw him, and it was all over.

I walked back down and checked the range. 43 yards.

Bang! Flop! Done! BoooYaaaaa!

Entry was through the ribs, exit was also. Gotta love that! Lungs were wrecked, liver too, and he did not have enough circulation going, to bleed, when I cut his throat.

Got a supplemental doe tag left, and no pressure.

Mebbe gonna go grouse hunting tomorrow. The one that I got so far this year, is lookin' pretty lonely in the freezer...

Model 70 Winchester, Featherweight, in .308 Win., bought new by my father sometime around 1962 or so.

Reloaded, 180 grain (winchester bulk, IIRC), to aproxiamately the same as the factory loads I used to shoot, from Federal.

All in all, nothin' special!:p

Well, except that it was my dad's gun, anyways.

Northman,

The real payoff of the bang-flop, is that I did not have to chase, track, follow or otherwise catch up to the deer.

He WAS pointed uphill, when I got him, so likely (hopfully) if he had run, he'd have run closer to the truck.
It was about a hundred yards or a bit more, from where I got him, to where I could drive the truck to, anyways, so it was not too tough a drag, even if it was up a sidehill..

Brutus, you know how it goes, she's happy for me, but otherwise noncommittal about it. :)

I have a hoard of trim and other bits that I was saving to do a batch of sausage with. Dunno if I'll do it myself, or farm it out. I only ground about 5 ziplocs full off the doe I got earlier this year, and put up an equal or larger amount off her for potential sausage grind, so, we'll see.

Mmmmm..... Sausage.....!
