Had a great day out walking.
Saw not much in the way of critters, but a few tracks and a couple new places that I had not seen before.
Kinda sucked for a hunt. Not really sucked, but, hey, I was supposed to be out hunting, eh!
I parked myself on a slope leading down to a river, and had a good view of the flat below.
Did a little grunting, and stood still and watched and waited.
About 20 minutes after I was settled in, I caught a little tiny movement through he trees. Antlers!
He was not running the opposite direction, so either he was coming in to check out the grunting, or he was stone deaf and oblivious.
He stepped into a clear(ish) lane about 15 or 20 seconds after I first saw him, and it was all over.
I walked back down and checked the range. 43 yards.
Bang! Flop! Done! BoooYaaaaa!
Entry was through the ribs, exit was also. Gotta love that! Lungs were wrecked, liver too, and he did not have enough circulation going, to bleed, when I cut his throat.
Got a supplemental doe tag left, and no pressure.
Mebbe gonna go grouse hunting tomorrow. The one that I got so far this year, is lookin' pretty lonely in the freezer...
Cheers
