This true story was recently re-posted by Sporting Dog Adventures on Facebook. I've already posted the full text on the "Wilderness Survival and Disaster Preparation" subforum here, but for those who don't normally go there I recommend you do look it over, so here's the link to an account of a remarkable killer weather event in November, 1940.

I read that story when I was quite young
cant even remember the magazine it was in
but I do remember it was a cold winter day,
and wasn't allowed to hunt on my own yet

The story was published in Waterfowler magazine... many years ago, I can't remember which issue, but I have the whole collection in my attic... just not terribly motivated to crawl up there.

Even in this day and age--go down to Minnesota--Hastings or Red Wing or Winona, this time of year, stop at the local gas stations called Holliday Station Stores, look for a group of guys wearing camouflage, hanging around the self-serve coffee machines, ask about the Armistice Day Blizzard. I garentee you will meet duck hunters who will tell you stories about how their relatives perished in that storm.

Wow that was a very interesting article. We of the Northwest get the wind but seldom the cold but have seen a few storms which have pushed to the limit but nothing compared to that thank you...
