I am on the hunt for a 14.5 AR and I find it really hard to find one. Most AR's are 16 inch and over? Even on Irunguns, most of their ARs are 16inch an over.

Why is this. Are 14.5 inch barrel a dieing breed? I find it impossible to find a nice 14.5 inch AR with a Fixed Front sight base/ post.

Just buy a 16 inch and then sell the barrel and put the money towards a custom built 14.5.

What do you consider nice? Got a price range?

Not sure why you want a fixed front sight post but it's your rifle so here you go.

You can also buy one without a fixed front sight and then sell the free float forend and low profile gas block and then buy the standard handguards and front sight/gas block for dirt cheap since no one wants those anymore. probably come out $200 up after swapping parts.

+1 on that. I've had couple LMTs 14.5 but regretfully got rid of them. Now just have a Eagle arms 14.5. (Does anyone even carry EA anymore??) Now I want a 14.5 LMT.

I'm waiting on Colt's 14.5"AR or C8IUR-14 aka: "The Patrol", unfortunately I do not know how long I'll be waiting.
Colt Canada did say to expect more models to be released later this year, (a 14.5" IUR would sure make a nice stocking stuffer).

For me it is the ultimate size AR, compact and versatile w/o to much of a loss in velocity. It'll be worth waiting for IMO if you're not in to big of a hurry and if you can't wait I'd look into Questar's LMT AR's in the 14.5" variety listed on their Gunnutz site.

Cheers D

It is due to US law... in the US anything over 16" is taxed or restricted or something... so most shorter ARs are for the police/LEO market and aren't as common... And regular civilian carbines are generally 16". That is my understanding.

Your understanding is lacking.

Barrels of less than 16" in the USA require an NFA tax stamp to possess. With a wait of a year and a cost of $200 it is too much of a hassle for some IMO lazy folks to bother with. 16" barreled guns are easier sales than shorter ones, its simple economics.

Thats fine, I don't really care to understand US laws too much because I don't live there. I just knew the 16" barrel has something to do with their regulations.

Primary Weapon Sytems 14.5. I think its good to go even in the states because the flash hider is pinned on.
For me it is just about the perfect AR. Love it.

The 14.5" barrelled AR-15's are not dead. For a lot of people in the USA its not worth the NFA hassle with the $200 USD tax stamp and up to year waiting period for class 3 transfers in the USA just to shave 1.5" off of barrel length. We carry a large selection of 14.5" uppers in the USA that are not mated to lower for NFA reasons. We have NIB Colt LE6921 14.5" uppers (same as US mililtary m4 length) on the US site as well. Read the discriptions well if ordering a 14.5" upper from the USA because you will want one that does not have a pinned flashider that makes the overall barrel length 16" for US law.

Matt K did a very nice writeup explaining why the optimum barrel length was 15.7"- hence the barrel length of the C8 and its semi auto civilian derivative.

But I think the 15.7" length would make it difficult to bring into the US for any shooting competition, etc?

15.7" was ideal for our military ball, that's all...
Doesn't mean it will shoot any ammo OTHER then our military ball as well, or is ideal for different loadings from 55-80gr etc
