The death of 14.5?

Yes, sub-16" would be subject to NFA class 3 rules, and not permitted in many States. Makes it a PITA for competition...

I have a 14.5" which I have pinned and welded the muzzle device. I registered it as a 16" as it is an accepted practice in the USA.
It makes absolutely no difference as far as Canada is concerned.
I used a handguard that can be removed without the muzzle device needing removal and the gas block can slide forward enough to come out of the barrel but for barrel removal.

You welded on a muzzle device to a 14.5" barrel and registered it as a 16" in Canada?

I am currently waiting for my BCM EAG Tactical Rifle from Arms East. It is a 14.5" although it has a permanent BCM compensator bringing it to 16" I believe. I too was looking for that length for my next AR. Can't wait until it arrives!

Yes, permanently attaching a compensator/flash hider to the end of a 14.5" barrel is common in the US to bring the total barrel length to 16"+, thus avoiding the NFA regs on short-barrel rifles (some US laws are just as dumb as ours).

You can say that again... Case in point, the new CT/NY compliant AR15s.... Looking at these makes me think living in Canada isn't so bad after all...

that good be true, but in the states they have the option if your willing to wait and pay a one time fee, lol

I think that is your only option in Connecticut or NY state... They have the "assault weapons ban" and can't have a semi auto with pistol grip, bayonet lug, flash hider, etc.

You realize that in Canada we don't consider the flash hider as part of the barrel whether its welded or not, so your 16" rifle is incorrectly registered(not that I or anyone else with common sense gives two sh*ts).

The states are small, the solution is moving out of a sh*tty one.

I am on the hunt for a 14.5 AR and I find it really hard to find one. Most AR's are 16 inch and over? Even on Irunguns, most of their ARs are 16inch an over.

Why is this. Are 14.5 inch barrel a dieing breed? I find it impossible to find a nice 14.5 inch AR with a Fixed Front sight base/ post.

U.S. SBR regulations. That's why.

Questar sells 14.5" LMT uppers/rifles, which in my opinion are some of the best 14.5" out there (well that goes for everything LMT makes). Especially NOT overgassed like pretty much everything else.

I've been running a 14.5 LMT upper hard for a few years, it's one tough mofo.

I've been using a 14.5" from ArmsEast for CQB and similar matches, it seems to be a good length for this and with a TA33H it is not too heavy. It runs fine with Winchester, PMC and even Norinco 55 grain FMJ.

Supposedly the shorter the barrel the more the wear and tear, probably true but not a factor for the amount of shooting I am doing.

Yes because in Canada it makes no difference if the barrel is 4.5" or 24.5" Since AR-15's are restricted by name.
On my form 6NIA they want the registration certificate number and barrel length.
If it was registered as a 14.5" it would not be allowed into the USA due to NFA regulations.
Since the FH is pinned and welded (must be both) the overall length of the barrel is over 16" in the eyes of the ATF and not subject to NFA regulations.

You're right about Canada not considering the flash hider part of the barrel, BUT south of the border it IS, and registering a 14.5 barrel with the flash hider welded on so it's 16" is necessary. US Customs will want to see the Canadian reg cert, and if it says 14.5 barrel (or whatever the metric equivalent is) it's highly unlikely you'll be allowed to bring it in to the States.

That's the only reason to register a 14.5" barrel with a flash hider welded on as a 16" barrel in Canada - so the rifle can be taken into the States for shooting.

Right, but then the registration is wrong...

AS posted, your CDN registration is invalid as its incorrectly measured as a 16" barrel. Do you follow???
