That's one of 4-5 deer that walked up and down the ATV trail while I was in the bush...

haha I know how you feel. I had a group of 6-8 mulies walk past my blind this morning. The only ones that presented a shot were the does and spikes. the big 4+ point buck that i have seen in that area was definately with them, but he wouldn't move out of the thick stuff!

Sometimes i wish it was easier, but then I remember how rewarding a successful hunt is!

I especially like it when they walk past the parked truck within 10 feet but you cant find them in the bush.

many years ago, my older brother took me on one of my first hunting trips for mule deer in south saskatchewan, i recall it took several hours but we got about 2 between 3 of us. my brother had one of the early chev blasers then, and he drove into the fields to load up,

when leaving, and i think the little buggers must have known we were done, then the herd showed up, and i recall my brother, not going very fast, having to beep the horn quite a few times to get them out of the way, as they would be within 10 to 15 yards in front and sides.

btw, blargon, nice picture, i saved it, it speaks louder than a thousand words. i think you were the one being stalked !! lol

I know how you feel this guy came out 20 mins after I left on opening day.

Then I tried to get this day off of work but no dice.

I'm off this Friday and Saturday for muzzle loader in 62.

I had three does walk by at about 60 yards last week - just a bit outside my comfort range with the crossbow. Another was 20 yards through the thick brush. I could see her, but couldn't get a clean shot so I held off.

Driving home that same afternoon there was a big buck standing about 40 feet from the road in a flat, wide-open field that was about 100 acres in size. Absolutely nothing around him for cover. He just pranced away as I stopped to drool at him...

Deer: Wonderfully frustrating, aren't they??

Been there, done that, including yesterday :) when we were out for a muzzleloader hunt.
Great idea taking a (really good) pic - wish I had thought of that.
On the way there yesterday, my son and I saw the biggest buck I've ever seen standing just inside a posted (no hunting, no trespassing) fence line. It was so indifferent to us that it just stood there watching while I backed up and swung the car across the road to shine the headlights on it. After awhile it just walked away across the field in the light from the headlights. Brings up the question - Can Deer Read?

Yeah, the walkin in your tracks is a great kicker. It is good though for your confidence in the general area though. I've doubled back on my tracks in less than 10 minutes to find the same thing.

well today was great except the fact I was taunted by 13 deer thats right 13 4 bucks a few yearling does and about 5 huge doe's....One group of deer entered the field a doe came out first followed by a nice dark brown 4x4 a couple does and a spike buck also came following the first two. This group of deer just walked around the field eating for a bit every deer in the herd got within 70yds but nothing I did brought them closer bleat/grunt.

So I'm sitting there ready to shoot my cross bow on the dark buck waiting for him to take a few more steps to the 50yd range. Well he whirled around and I took a look in my scope to where he was looking and what do you know another buck this one was a nice 3x3. The 3x3 made his way into the field followed but another herd of does and another small fork buck. The dark buck let out a few grunts and some stomps and the smaller light colour buck came trotting over the two bucks sniffed and circled each other for a few seconds. The Dark buck reared up and begun hitting the smaller buck in the head with his front hooves followed up by a hard antler clash on his way down.

The small buck kinda hung his head and walked away and this is where I made my snort/wheeze with my MAD call and the Dark buck came running in my direction grunting and hung up at 73yds. I did another snort/wheeze and got a stomp out of him he stayed there looking in my direction for about 3-4 minutes when a low flying helicopter went by over head and both groups of deer took off running and my hunt was over........

Hope to get back out tomorrow night its now snowing and they are bedding in the thick cedar that surrounds the field I'm going to set up in some downed trees that would put me at about 30-40yds if they come back again I'll be ready!.
