The deer hunter panned by critics

In the old days most neighbors would gather round and and celebrate such a thing.

Fortunately i live in a small enough town the 4 or 5 immediate neighbors still flock together to check out the success hunting or fishing, its great!
Good on this guy for not backing down :D

HAHA - good for him. People have become idiots and have no connection to where their food comes from.

I concuur!

This is a good lesson for the kids as to where that tasty steak they're about to eat came from.

People are TOTALLY reliant on government and butchers working where nobody can see the bloody massacre!

Most days I wish there was some national tradgedy where we could go back to the pioneer days....just for a week or 2.

See how much they curse that big piece of meat in the front yard.

These close-minded yuppy asshats have a GOLDEN opportunity to teach those children how meat gets to the table...and if they asked the gentleman nicely, he'd probably take a few minutes and "enlighten" these children about hunting and the food chain.

How the phuck do these people manage to walk through a supermarket without having a coniption fit? Really.

We have become so distanced from where our food originates. Sad.

I'm sure that day will come sooner than you think - the meat freezer in the supermarket will look like the cigarette displays - covered or obscured. I live in the GTA, so I can understand the bizarre perspective some people have on things like this. I think I would have knocked on the door and congratulated the guy and offer to buy the head. If schools taught kids about about hunting and where food comes from, it wouldn't be a problem.

I aggree that people of full of chit and hyporitical, but...

Hunting does have a public relations issue unfortunately, and no we shouldn't inherently be on the defensive, but being tactful goes a long way...

I think we should be able to butcher in our back yards but being a little discrete can be very valuable, like hanging it out of full view, not almost on the sidewalk.

Once a few neighbours see that you do this they are unlikely to be concerned but if their introduction to it is your deer hanging on the front lawn they may think its brazen (I don't think it is of course). A little tact would go a LONG way to winning over non-hunting minds.

Personally, I'm in the country...and it's par for the course this time of year.

I am however familiar with the city. I do believe "tact" is a good thing and go a long way..

Up and above that however...live and let live. Don't like seeing that deer hanging...well, I don't like the fruitloop parade down the mainstreet.

The answer... don't look at it.

When I was reading that article I was wishing it happened in t.o. . Not the greatest place to hang a deer, but the guy was in a jam & suspect with in his full rights to do so. So unless one of his neighbors offered to do the 'Christian' thing & hang it in their own garage, well then I would have told them to piss off too. The pussyfication of this province is almost complete as well as the country. Someone with half a brain would have dragged their kids over to see it & not scare them, but simply explain life. Then let them form their own opinion about it. Where I hunt is a family camp, so to see someones four year old (now a days pre teens & teenagers, I'm getting old!) walking around the meat pole looking at moose or deer was no big deal.
These yuppies & hippies that move into rural or smaller urban areas need a reality check... Sometimes you'll see a tractor in town or in this case a dead deer in a tree. Get over it!!!

Kind of tacky if you ask me, but whatever.

I would hesitate to hang a deer in my front yard mostly for fear of all the neighbourhood dogs getting at it.

I have deer hanging in my backyard (not front, I'd worry about theft) all the time. I never considered that people would get their panties in a bunch about it. Oh well, they can always kiss my a@s if they don't like it.

Tacky, but within his rights. I live in town, and I wouldn't hang my deer anywhere that random junkies could see it. It'd be gone by morning, I'm sure.

In my opinion this person committed a significant disservice to our hunting community. This was not a hunting camp or a place in the country or even his back yard where a deer might be hung to cool and be skinned prior to butchering. To suggest hanging by the neck a large eviscerated animal in the front yard of a city dwelling would not be found to be offensive and unacceptable is dreaming in Technicolor. If it was a cow or a pig it would be no more or less acceptable. Being it’s a deer at a time when hunting is becoming less popular and less understood the last thing we need is some idiot sticking it in the face of those who don’t understand it. This is no way to garner understanding and or support and will only further alienate the non hunting community confirming in the minds of many that we are just a bunch of hillbillies out and about killing things.

There was a time when I was one who would display the deer on the front fender of the car or truck and drive around town blowing the horn to draw attention - that was then... this is now.

I usually hang my deer in the garage. Mostly because if I hung it in the tree, some ####er would steal it in the night...
