The deer that couldn't run

IIRC last time this was posted, it was determined that the hoove growth was caused by a disease or genetic defect
 
At least someone was able to bag him and get him out of the gene pool.
I bet he'll taste just fine.

Actually it's wierd he was able to grow so big and old with such a eformity, must not have really hindered him much.
 
in some fenced hunts spots they feed antler growth #### that has side effects..

what you are seeing is a side effect i believe!
 
Those hooves are a result of "foundering". It happens with horses too. My guess is that someone tried to grow a superbuck in a pen, obviously it didn't work judging by that scrawny little thing.
 
Sheep, goats a nd cattle often encounter the same problem, especially when they are penned up and don't have access to rocky ground or cement floors to kind of "grind" the hoof growth down. Have to trim feet regularly to keep domestic animals from going lame. I can't imagine that a wild deer would ever get hooves that long or be a ble to escape from predators, probably a penned deer.
 
I've seen goats like that but not near as long.

I'm going with the penned up theory over the genectic freak.

It it was penned up the owner needs a swift kick in the nards.
 
You can wreck a perfectly good horse's feet by feeding him too many oats and he "founders" Their hooves grow fast and freaky, I'm not sure why, but has something to do with "too much of a good thing" in the oats.

It must be a real keeper to the hunter as he's taking everything home, including the guts.

Something strange going on with those hooves. I'm inclined to agree with the others that think it may be a "farmed" animal.
