Only thing I'm not a fan of is the orange front sight insert. I found it hard to focus on for shooting 100m with it. I got out of the sun so the sight showed up as black and crisp, and was much easier to hit at 100.

Grips are a little short for my hands, I think I might need wood ones.

But since you like the bigger guns, "you might also like" a Model 27 or 28, which are .357 built on the N Frame, like the original .357s in the 30s. Pricey, though. (One optomist has had a 27 on the EE for several weeks, asking $1800!)

Am looking at a 627 myself, beautiful gun, 5" PC version.
Please see the 686 thread in this section and let me know what you think. Dilemmas. .. love getting a new gun, making the right choice is another matter, although hard to go wrong with any new member of the family.

It's a pinned front sight. I wonder if a S&W target blade (matte black, vertical face) would fit? OTOH, by the time you find and replace the front sight and grips, you might be better to wait and trade into a S&W.

I"m just going to use a jiffy marker on the orange spot. Grips are like $60 or so.

He wouldn't have asked if it wasn't already in his heart ! And by the sound of it( gun fire in the back ground) he hasn't regretted it. OH it's sometimes a slippery slope when we ask for opinions here!! I too have this Conundrum ! And I really try not not to come in to possession of ammo that I already do not have a firearm for . BUT MAN !!! It's hard !!!
