The Double Rifle: Share your experience.

I own only one double rifle. . It's a two barrel set made by Raick Freses (Bros). . Cape Rifle. . One set of barrels is 8x57 RJ, Rimmed cartridge, and the other set of barrels is 20 ga shotgun. . There's a leather carrying case for the second set of barrels with a shoulder strap set up. . The barrels exchange using the same forearm. . Stock and forearm are very dark, dense and highly figured walnut with fine line checkering. . Nice set up with quick change barrels, reasonably light and easy to carry around.
 
I really like the Baikal 45/70 since it is a very nice rifle to carry when walking in the bush, since it only weighs 6.8 lbs (My Marlin Guide gun weighs 6.92 for comparison). I do not shoot hotter loads in it because of the weight, however the Baikal is capable of handling hotter loads. I think it is probably the only double rifle ever made with hammer forged barrels and also one of the few that it is possible to regulate the barrels easily.

One thing I did not realize about the Baikal MP221 sxs is that at one time they made them in additional calibers other than the 7.62x51 (308), 7.62x63 (3006) and 11.4x53.5R (45/70) that they are currently listed as being available in by the factory. They have in the past also made them in 7.62x54R and 9.3x74R
 
so say a guy is interested in an affordable double rifle, the Baikal is definitely one I'd like to find in person to handle....but what other options are available under or around 5k?
 
If they made them available in 9.3 x 74R again, I'd be all over that.

I would have said Chapuis, but the only one on TradeEx's site is $5895. But it's a 375 Flanged, which is pretty damn cool. I still think it's a good price.
 
My experience is almost zero. I did consider the Baikal but my 444 would never forgive me. I once handled what the owner called a 303 Brit stalking rifle. It was a nice rifle without any ornament except tasteful checkering. Incedible balance and surprisingly light. If my pockets were much deeper that would be my choice. No gun bearers and elephants were I woods loaf but some deer and moose.
