The DOWNSIDE of auto bolt release mod 10/22

^ My thoughts as well....I just did the auto bolt release modification to a 10-22 I just bought.
It was a very easy job and only took a couple minutes with a small flat file and a chainsaw file.

The SR is a 10/22 there is no difference in operation.

With regards to the auto release. Why are you locking the bolt back to begin with? If you aren't showing clear or running a cable lock through it there's no valid reason to lock the bolt back. Keep it loaded and shoot the thing. Your money is better spent on a trigger, scope base, stock, sights, extractor or barrel.

If you have a 10-22 TD such as myself, the bolt must be locked back to assemble and disassemble the rifle. I need to do this mod one of these days, this time of year I'm wearing gloves and it is a PITA to release the bolt.

So you're saying its too difficult to hold the bolt back with one hand while twisting the barrel in place? Or are you saying the stock bolt hold open either doesn't work or is too difficult to operate?

My DIY stock one works just fine. I went SLOW and rechecked a few times. My 10-22 has been a project of DIY with stock parts.

Trigger job, bolt radius, bolt hold open job, trigger overtravel stop, I think that is it so far.

Go slow. Recheck often.
 
I thought my 10/22 Takedown had the same issue, but, I just realized shortly after I picked it up that I wasn't holding the bolt back far enough. On mine, if I brace the stock and hold it back hard, the bolt release works fine, even with gloves on, so I haven't done any mod.
 
Anyone know why this factory part has a different shape then most? It seems flat and angled compared to what most modders explain needs to be domed shaped?

It works fine, it's just small and awkward to manipulate with winter gloves on. I would prefer to just pull the bolt back and let it go like most guns.
