The Downside of bullpup rifles.(one of them)

Seeing these posts is funny. I don't care what a bull pup downside is. Who cares? If my Tavor is chosen by military somewhere in the universe, it won't be too bad. If you are afraid of this, afraid of that, stay away from firearm. Anyway I still love my Tavor and all my guns.

Regardless of how anyone feels about bull-pups, I would love to see a video of someone changing a mag on a bull-pup at even close to the same speed as I've seen guys changing STANAG mags. Even with practice it's awkward. Unfortunately, it's the nature of the beast.
I think there was one here shows how the PLA do mag change with their T95 before. Quite a long time ago.

Big +1, well said.

You can change mags fairly quickly with a Tavor. It's close enough to AR speeds that it's no longer the huge disadvantage bullpups are known for.

Watched this on an iPhone but it looked quick enough to me. Yes I agree the AR is the King at this but that gap is no longer as big as many think.

See this is what I was taking about! Thank you. At least someone can back up a statement.

Now I know it can be done. I agree, not quite as fast as some but pretty close and more than fast enough. Bull pups are still not the be all end all rifle that some on here believe them to be, but they have there role as an Infantry rifle for sure. Are there any video's of this being done with some other bull-pups besides the Tavor.

Hey, way faster than me! It looks like he moved his hand back and used the back of his thumb to hit the magazine release.

You've never done that? I used to think it was the coolest thing ever when I was doing a terrible job trying high speed reloads. The whole "open your hand" trick. These days I work on a philosophy of "firing hand stays gripping the gun" and I take my time to remove a mag and insert a new mag seperately. Its the reload that I can always do. Whether I'm on the range, or out in a snowstorm with gloves on. I'd rather be consistent that super speedy under optimal conditions.

This is always the right answer. If you like what you've got, no one else can say you made the wrong choice.

No, can't say that I have. I'm kind of the same mindset, ie: firing hand stays on the gun, and use a one-hand motion with the other to both remove and insert a new magazine. Consistency is key. It's not like I'm running it in drills, competition or training for the Zombie olympics... ;)

I guess speed reloads were more exciting when we only had 5 rounds, but since 10 is pretty standard these days, and we're now up to 18...

The scariest part of that video; The sound of full-auto fire, while the rifle is being dropped and flipped.

I thought I was about to see twenty people get shot in that video.

Luckily that was the sound of another rifle. (Whew!)

I was thinking the same thing!

Explain how running full auto would cause a detonation? Bad ammo or not, a catastrophic ammo failure in a bullpup means a trip the hospital. I'll pass....

Not all bullpups are designed the same. I trust my RFB to direct the explosion away from me in the event of a kaboom.
I would need to have a closer look at the Tavor but it's probably safe to say you would be fine if it went boom.
If you'd like I'll dig up some of the youtube videos to show an AR blowing up in the operator's face. Those don't look very fun either.
If your going to live your life in fear of a rifle kaboom happening to you maybe you should just find a safer hobby. Maybe knitting?

Not to be a #### but I would trust my life to a firearms giant like FN Herstal way before I do to a nobody like Kel Tec. IWI, haven't heard any reports of them going KB, but I can't imagine it would be a pleasant experience seeing it's right beside my face. I haven't seen any ar like HK416 or knights or DD ever take off the face, some lacerations on support arm , but even that is rare. There was a site about the HK416 squib detonation tests, I can't find it anywhere anymore, maybe you will have more luck. The barrel bulges and not much else happens, the gun makes a loud noise, the mag pops out, guy popped in a new mag and it still shot.

Here is a 416 otb test with a sauceboss techno theme. The standard ar breaks away from the operator with no serious injury.

Sure, but for how long?

** For the record I know the date of the post I replied to here, just raising some awareness to the issue. **

I didn't get a straight answer on this. They gave an indication that they would be pursuing all magazines that have been falsely claimed to be .50 Beowulf magazines, which were viewed as really being .223/5.56 mags with a different label (This didn't include OEM Alexander Arms mags as of what I was told today), but when asked about the difference between our submission and the 9mm vs .40SW handgun magazine ruling they already made, they said that was different and that those magazines were not the same.

Back on topic, I've always been curious to know what kind of protection is offered by each bullpup design for a out of battery discharge? Anyone care to elaborate and share some pics ;)?

I read on the bullpup forum that the tavor can't be fired out of battery, it said the hammer can't reach the firing pin unless the bolt is locked.
