The Ejector Broke in my S&W M&P22

We were shooting at the range and having problems with misfeeds when using a new type of ammo, Sellier & Bellot .22 LR SB Standard. It's pretty much standard 40 grain .22 with an unjacketed lead bullet, but with the tip flattened, almost like a mini wad cutter. I've previously shot about 1,000 rounds, mostly round nosed and hollow points, jacketed and unjacketed. We've had few or no issues up to this point.

We had several misfeeds, with the cartridge not entering the chamber and either getting jammed against the rim or caught in the slide and the casing bent. Unfortunately, I put them in the misfeed can and didn't think to save them.

Eventually the slide got caught on something and wouldn't return to battery, but got hung up part way. I took the slide off and a part fell out. This was the ejector, which is normally riveted to the frame. The head of the rivets was sheered off and the ejector itself bent slightly and twisted.

Needless to say, it's going to the warranty centre for some fixing up. Hopefully the frame is OK, but I want somebody who knows what they're doing to check everything is in good order and safe.

The point: has anybody had a problem like this before? Is it likely to be the ammo or something else causing the problem? Everything seemed fine the last time I cleaned it, but we've gone to the range since then, and this was the second visit since cleaning.

Ideas and comments?

The ejector got caught upon mine's slide as well. I bent it back into place and kept on shooting. Another CGNer posted a thread regarding this problem. Definitely a weak spot in the design. Too bad yours fell out¡

In this case it actually broke the rivets. And it's pretty mangled. I'd rather have them look at it and make sure the gun hasn't been damaged than try shooting it with possibly unfortunate consequences.
