The EM2 Canadian bullpup rifle. Only $25,000 at Switzers Auction

Even if you do the math for the year 1978 and the age of the 12.2 owner, lets say he is 21 years old in 1978 -Born in 1957.
That would make him 56 years old today. And that might not be the minimum age of a 12.2 owner today providing there was a certain age requirement. (If he/she was an owner at 18 in 1978 - 53 years old today).

Maybe your number of 20 is just in the area you live in?

Do you realize that there are no more than 20 or so people eligible to own a full auto left in Canada?

Auctions are a way to sell. An auction has benefits and costs- like other forms of sales.

This particular sale went on for 3 days - I shudder to think what selling that amount of material on the net would involve.

No- in the Country.
I believe he meant that there is that many active buyers in Canada left - and he is the one that sells the stuff.

I was that age that you mentioned and there was no way I could afford a full auto. I wish I would have.

It must be an easy search to find out.

The one just sold was not the only EM-2 that was in private hands in Canada.

Must have been a bear to shoot in .30-'06!

I'd be concerned about a 'cook off' after any amount of rapid fire (or full auto) when inserting a fresh magazine.

I've had the experience of firing a Bundeswehr G3 (it was still being called the CETME at the time) in 7.62mm NATO. In single round fire, I liked it better than our FNC1, but it lacked a bolt 'lock open' feature on the last round. It was not a Bundeswehr requirement on the original specification. I think most soldiers appreciate being told the gun is empty instead of that deafening "Click!" when you expected a "Bang!" The FNC1 made a distinctive sound when it locked open on the last rd.

In full auto with the G3, you had to lean down on the forestock for any degree of control. Any more than a three shot burst and you were over the berm. It could have used an FN type three shot burst escapement like the Belgians had on their FN FALS.

I learned today that Bruce Strader passed away on March 17 2015.

Hi, I know this is a very long shot, but do you by any chance know what the serial number of this rifle is?

The only other rifle I've seen that features both the winter trigger and the folding Unit Sight (that deploys the rear aperture when rotated down) is serial #3 posted online roughtly 17 years ago. No literature mentions this sight configuration.

There aren't that many left who have continuously owned a 12(2) full-auto since 1978. Those with a 12(2) endorsement are quickly aging out, never to be replaced. I don't have the right class on my license to bid on this live, and would never be the one to deactivate such a priceless, irreplaceable piece of Canadian and Commonwealth small arms developmental history. So it definitely won't ever become mine, which is just as well, as I'd have otherwise been sorely tempted to try to make this the jewel in the crown of my collection. Thank goodness it was never to be!

The Fully Automatic (12.2) EM2

The one and only that I have ever seen and fortunate enough to play with get some up close pictures.

This EM2 is going to auction! $25,000 starting price! Wow.

Switzers got their hands on the remarkable Bruce Strader's collection. Let's hope it goes to someone who appreciates it for what it is...

It is a one of a kind, and an important piece of Canadian history. Serial number 1.

Sorry bud. Best I can do is $450 … take it or leave it 🤣

Those are all eventually getting destroyed or deactivated since very few people are left who have the correct license - and/or money and are not interested. Deactivate and sell.

We had one in 280, but the selector had issues
We got it in the Halifax area in the early 1970’s
Don’t remember the number, just the issue and it was sold because of it
