The Erickson Buck

nice buck. congrats.

deer don't like the 7x57. at least the one that i pointed one at didn't.

When I was standing knee deep in a snow drift listening to wolves chasing elk, I heard a shot from the North I though of you and I may have sworn out loud. Congrats Noel, all the whitetail racks I've seen this year combined, score less than your buck.

good job....I wish I could write like that....
great deer and a great rifle...
There is doing it and than doing it with style...you did the later.

You guy's are too nice! I need to get M1Garandfather to post some of his writings, they will blow you away, no pun intended.

guido, don't I know you from somewhere???? Your not playing fair!:p :D

Jarrod, we just plain have to hook up someday and put the scare in some deer, you deserve it and so does your 6.5! Or maybe a Browning high power..;) ;) :p
Good thing I wasn't having a drink when I read your post or it would have been all over my computer!

Darryl, Jason and Pat, this little 275 has turned out to be a gem and a delight, like an extension of my arm! I hope one day to see my Daughter use it, that would be sweet! Best of luck to you all!

Noel

That is truely enjoyable writting Noel, rivals that which we read in most hunting mags. A true sportsman to be sure - my hat's off to you.

sorry Noel, just a wild guess. what's the gross score? that's the one that counts in my books

No problem man, I'm just joshing you! Are you not on the Albertgame forum too? I thought you had made the same guess there too, thats all. ;)

He grosses 156 3/8, net is 139 5/8 IIRC! What a slap in the face for the old boy, he worked so hard to grow this cool rack. Once again, as others mentioned here, the deductions don't mean squat. I will probably never see another buck anywhere close to this one. One can always hope.:)

Thanks Gregg, I can't wait to see what you get to tag, getting to play on that premium land!

Fogducker and gitrdun, you guy's are too kind! There are things I would change in the story looking back but maybe the unplugged version here gives it a more homey feel. lol :p

Here are the bullet pics before and after John. These digital cameras and I don't get along yet, forgive me for the crap pics.:(
The load I used in the rifle works great but as always please work up your loads from a safe start. I had no head expansion, heck the primer barely looses the radius around it's circumference. This Brno has a very long throat, so long that I cannot get to within .030" of the lands. I have to seat to magazine well feeding preference. Here we go!

Case: Necked up RP 6mm
Primer: CCI 250
Powder: H414 @ 49.5gr
Bullet: Hornady 154gr Interbond 3.148" COL
Velocity: 2833fps
Best group, .400" @ 100 yards, ave group, sub moa.
The group below was at fifty yards is .800" on center, first group of the day.

My play load is as follows:

Case: reformed Rp 6mm
Primer: CCI250
Powder: H4895 @ 43gr
Bullet: RP 140gr PSP, 2.970" COL
Velocity:2770fps

Here is the before and after of the Hornady bullet. I would say it penetrated close to four feet of the Buck. Suprising enough, as short as it looks, it still has 81% wieght retention. I generally bend the petals open to clean the bullet but this Interbond bullet is noticably stiffer. I left them alone in fear of slashing my fingers if I slipped. Finished weight: 125.2gr  Still retains all the petals too.
