Well at the EOHC 3 gun match, Plinker66 had a fatal malfunction of his AR15.............

Pretty much sucked after a 8 hour drive and Hotel bill. I lent him mine and he finihsed the days shooting but it is still a pisser.

His CAR stock on his 16 inch Bushy must have backed out a bit because his buffer detent was bent and "rounded of".

Of course having the detent sping............SPROING away into the tall grass near the safety area pretty much sealed his fate!!

Unfortunately we did not have any spare parts around...................

THIS MUST BE REMEDIED!!

soooooo........aside from a Detent and spring ( obviously) what sort of bits and pieces should we include in a ready spares kit?

I am thinking a Fireing pin and extractor but what else??

buffer detent spring
pistol grip screw
safety detent and spring
extractor

allen key set
gas key screws

I usually take a spare AR15
 
Stupid thing is I did not take my Sons AR along for the ride.........could have swapped lowers and he would have been back in the game in minutes :oops:

I had a detent fail once as well so I will take their advice PLUS my bad experience!
 
I recommend the Armalite spare part kit as it comes in a nice little box which you can add other spare parts to complete your kit. Very handy. Cheers

Smgcon puts them together. Look for his posts in the Parts and Bits section of the board. Includes all the essentials, but I'll leave it up to him to break it down for you. Definately everything you need.

He should have some more up on the board here soon.
 
AR 15 spares

Hell, just buy a complete lower parts kit. You will probably never use most or any parts, but it is nice to have the insurance and they only cost about $55 us. Once you get the kit, PRACTICE TEARING DOWN YOUR LOWER AND PUTTING IT BACK TOGETHER. Better to learn at home when you are not being pressured. They are really quite simple, don't be afraid of them.

After that, a gas tube, buffer spring, and complete bolt carrier and bolt are good ideas, but not as necessary if you keep yours in good order.

I am looking into putting on another AR15 clinic again and will gladly show anyone how to do this.

Has a "RIFLE SERVICE PAK" for $34.99 USD each and it is in my kit. I have not had the time to fit them yet (to ensure that they are serviceable when required). There is a note on the package that says: "Grinding of some springs may be desirable." I think this kit has at least one of every spring in an AR, but you can check their web site if you are interested.

I would like to include a spare bolt but want to make sure that the one I get will work for certain. Don't see a need for a bolt carrier, since I probably won't feel like shooting a match if my rifle blows up on me that day.

Need a wrench for the buffer tub... forget its technical name. Can they be purchased in Canada, or do I need to import it from the U.S.

Gas tube? Is it really a good idea to have a spare one of these in my kit? What tools are needed to change it?

Also have a spare firing pin... but honestly, I like the idea of a spare AR, but just don't have the cash for that right now...

Well, I think I am going to complete my AR (M4 configuration) spares kit with a complete upper. That way I will not have to worry about headspacing and the such, because the complete upper will completely match.

I currently have a complete Dlask DAR-701 with 14.5" barrel. Where would you recommend I buy a "extra" upper? I want the flat top version with 1:7 twist and in new condition (so I know how many rounds have been shot through it). Based on what I have read here, I would also like the true 'M4' ramp...

Buying the complete upper should not be as expensive as a complete AR and my registration would not change if the barrel length remains the same.

So... what are your recommendations? I remember that some lower and upper receivers have a different pin size... only the Colt uppers will not fit a Dlask lower, correct?

I do not want the two sets of bolt rings unless you provide instructions on how they are changed. My manual says "Evacuate to support maintenance if bolt rings are warn, broken, or missing." I would also like to purchase a few of those rubber things (I do not know what they are called) that are placed between the upper and lower receiver to make them fit more tightly together.
